I've been seeing a lot of high body discus. Are they supposed to be superior to regular discus? Some of these high bodied discus look severely disfigured and not round like a discus should be. Please advise.

It depends on what you like. They are not superior in any way. I like some high fins but not to the extreme.

I agree. It's personal preference.

I think that these ultra high-bodied fish are more popular in Asia than here in the states.

I agree some High bodied discus borders deformity. I think it's because they are cross to bulldog types to create the high bodied fish.

I consider this LSS high bodied. IMO this is okay.

This is another high bodied which IMO is leaning toward deformity.

Have to agree with Dan. IMO that second discus picture is one butt ugly fish.

I like some of the high bodies (pic #1 is nice) if they aren't extreme, like in pic #2, that fish is just awful, so I'm going to ask - Is that what they call standing egg ? If so I will stear clear away from that stuff !
Thanks

Hi B,
The second pic is what is refered to as a Bulldog Discus. As you all know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.:)

Personally, i believe there's lots of potential in the genetics of the fish.

There seem to be two distinct body types promoted these days, the high fin/high body from Asia, and the round, shorter fin type from Germany and America. I prefer the high body high fin form, it is more pleasing to me. As far as the pics on this thread, #1 is fine, #2 is an abomination in my opinion.
