View Full Version : how long to let softened water cure?

we are running our water through a water softener and I was wondering if we even need to let it cure for a day. if so then how long to let it cure?

You did not mention if you have city water or well water and what do you mean by cure?
If you have well water and only changing 30% or less probally not.If city water you need to rid it of chlorine by aging or something like declor.

You should do some tests and see what your pH is after 24 hours of storage/aeration compared to out of tap. Most people can use tap water with an appropriate water conditioner like prime.

;) Softened water, if thru a sodium based salt, is not great for discus....check your TDS, which will tell you how much sodium you have in there.....in NJ, my softener water was >900ppms.& the fish did not do well....had to use 100% R/O reconstituted water for them...had planned to take the water off before the softener, but moved to Tn....just a thought...JMO,
