I am trying to get these little guys to let me touch them. I do scoop out the poop from the tank before i feed w/a net and they r good w/that. I touch them when i do this. The funny thing is they r not scared of me @ all. But.... if i go too long, they thend to flee to the other side of the tank. Soooooo, i decided to see if they would let me touch them. Its real funny cause, i did touch them, but, i could only do that if they saw my blue bin of worms. Funny, they knew it was food. How did they no this? Anyway, I did get to "pinch their dorsal fin" enough for them to no i wasn't gonna hurt them. After a while i had no choice but to feed because i kinda thought after a few pets they didn't want to be touched. they started to move to the other side of the tank. I just started this. I wish i could capture this on film, buit i can't do it by myself. Maybe i can get my son to help me w/this. If i can show u, u would see, i am not exageratting.

That would be nice to see that Eileen. And I believe you, because sometimes the interaction between us and our discus are simply amazing.:)

Keep going, woman! Sounds like you are on the right track ~ Ryan taught me how to let me pet them ~

Boy, these Frontosas better live up to this, huh? I heard and read they are like little puppies that swim up to you! They are almost eating out of my hand...

I took these pics myself ~ get someone to help you!

When 1 can tame such a wild animal :D

I had Oscar's many yrs back & tamed my fav's as lots of effort was taken to get them to jump through hoops, ring bell for dinner time, eat out of hand softly(was easiest).

True story! The prob was after going away a couple of wks. Come home to see the kid, nephews had untamed them too beasts as I ended up finding out with bloodied hands.

I know with our fab Discus how wanderful it can be & so pleasing to do so, although take care as hands must be wet at all times so as not to wipe off too much slime coat.

Keep at it & you will succeed.

Regards Armandi ;)

I let my 8 year old daughter feed them by hand and they let her pet their fins. Some of them enjoy it I think.

why do you want to touch them? it is kinda neat but remember they have a protective slime on them so don't touch them too much and don't stress them

Ill tell you how to touch them, I pet all my discus but like somone else said not too much due to their protective slime coat. The way i got my discus acclimated with me is, I take whatever frozen food they are going to eat that day, I hold it infront of my powerhead and let it melt and spread out all over the tank. Ive had all my discus eat right from my hand. This gets them used to your hands in the tank(Wash them first and after) This is how i got all of my fish used to me and now they trust me,let me touch them and eat right from my hand, Even my wb will let me pet her!.
