Question for medicated food.

I was curious I bought some medicated flakes. I was curious about them though. How fast do they have to eat the food before it loses the medication? Do they have to eat it right away? Or is there a certain time they need to eat it by? Before it sinks or does it not matter? If it sinks to the bottom does it lose the meds? Just wondering about that. Please let me know.
