I don't want BB tank, so what is an attractive light color substrate to use with Discus tank with sky blue background? No Sand because the tank will be acrylic and I don't want any scratches.

Was thinking about using snow white color gravels sizes 1/8" - 3/16"?

for cleaning purposes I would go as small as possible. If you are careful you could use sand. Anything else will be harder to clean as the poo will get in and under the gravel.

Maybe just a touch of sand to show some colors?

Sounds like a pretty tank. :) I would use sand (gravel will scratch just as much IME) you could use like an inch or less. :) I find it easier to clean than gravel, stuff sits on top and is easy to vac off. :)

Yes, maybe just thin layer of sand.

I prefer about 1/4 or 3/8ths inch of fairly fine sand.
Reason being, it has almost no, or very tiny void space.
So, fine debris, fecal crap & uneaten food does not sink into it.
That way you can see what/where to vaccum.

Can it be any type of sand? See people here use pool sand or non-scilica sand why?

I like pool filter sand because it is clean, and cheap ;)
