I noticed a couple of times while doing a water change one or two of my Discus will release a slime off their body.
Is this normal?

It usually is a sign that there is a lot of dissolved gasses in the new water - usually CO2 - allowing the new water to splash as much as poss will drive some fo the CO2 off. In an ideal sitiuation you would not want them sloughing slime off at each water change. Another option would be to age the water before doing that change.

I make all my water changes by hose attached to the faucet. If the water is added quickly there will be more dissolved gases present than if your refill the tank slowly. It is as Paul describes, the more dissolved gases present the more likely you will see additional slime production. As long as the is little difference in water chemistry I do not believe it is harmful.
I have used this refill method for four decades and have never lost any fish because of it. I do prefer the slower refill rate to a higher one. Mainly because it will reduce the presence of all bubbles everywhere including the fish.

Thanks for the information.
I do use a Python to vacum, drain & fill .I have been doing this for about a year and have only noticed the slime issues a few times. I guess I will fill slower and allow the water to splash as much as possible.
Thanks again

I notice this when I do more than 80% of water changes. I think if your source water parms do not match exactly with your tank water, that will be a problem when you do larger than normal amount of water change. You may want to do two smaller water changes instead of a big one in that case.
That's why I do most of my water changes at about 50%, then once a month or so do a big one, about 80%.
