This is perplexing, I am having a hard time getting beefheart, all the butchers in my area can only order 40lbs and well, that doesnt work for me!
I decided to substitute 92% fat free beef (ground) in my normal BH mix, which is (now) Fat free beef, spinach, a touch of garlic, ground 2 times and frozen. Man my fish do not like it, pick & spit, where when it was beefheart they gulped it down. I thought maybe just an adjustment, so I tried over the last week or so but no Joy! my faithful pomeranian, Spike is real happy though, he loves it! Has anyone else experienced this?

Mine will eat either but I used eye of round instead of hamberger cuz it's much leaner than the leanest hamburger. Next time I can't get BH tho I'm going to use a 2/3 shrimp x 1/3 salmon recipe.
I've read that the type of fat in beef muscle is not easily digested by fish and will cause internal problems if used for any length of time.
Mat (shinshin) is the guy to talk to about that.

I use 99% fat free Turkey and wild Salmon mixed with equal parts of shrimp in place of beef heart.
My fish love it.

I buy a mix from Wet Thumb Aquatics in Maryland, its made by Discus King, has beefheart, prawn, spinich and vitamins and sells in 10" x 12" sheets. The fish love it and not messy preparation. I get 12 sheets at a time and it lasts about a year. The cost with shipping is about $12 a sheet.
