I live in Seattle.
Do you know if I can cross the border with Discus fish if I bought from you?
Do you think the Discus can travel 3-4 hours in a car?
If so, what Discus do you have in stock right now?

thx

Ed,

April has some great fish...I am not sure about the border but 3-4 hours in a car is no issue...they could always be bagged in some oxygen like when fish are shipped.

hello there. if your just bringing some back for your own use and i gave you an invoice you should be fine. i have oxygen , heat packs. stryos etc. have a look at kennys list. most of those ill have in stock by next week. also some redmelons and a few yellows who have grown alot and some sunrise eruptoins from waynes discus. ill have a good variety.
someone from this forum drove some back over the border a few years back..they had no trouble. just tell them you are bringing some tropical fish back and show them your receipt. they are an allowed species. but..you could check with your customs and see . when i come this way never a problem. but your customs going into usa may be different. id check first. just tell them a friend has some tropical fish for you. would you be able to bring them back. for your own use. not selling or breeding . just for your fish tank
im not far from the border. 40 minutes maybe. im by ubc .
if you just purchased fish from macs and kens..id wait a bit..or..buy a new tank for a new group..separate hoses , nets, wash hands between tanks etc..as theres could be carriers and get the new ones ill. its risky mixing from different places.

Could you email me a price and shipping cost? to Seattle 98144, maybe I will pick them up...
I will swap my koi into my plant tank and clean everything out.

thx

April,
Could I see an image?
of the Yellows?
And Red Melons?

I will drive up next weekend to take a look at your discus. Suppose to be bad weather tomorrow. It will let me have some time to move things around...

I will probably take them, if I can drive up and bring them back across the border.

Got any ideas on where to ask? if I can?
Hmm.. if I get to the border and they won't let me pass, will you take them back?

You take US dollars?

Have any left that are solid red or yellow?

I probably stop by next weekend, but I was hoping for red and yellow...

hmm... now I can't find my passport or birth certificate...

Well, I made it back across...
I went thru the truck crossing in Blaine, WA.
Of course they had to check on the Discus to see if they are on the endangered list.

Things to know:
scientific name of Discus: Symphysodon
need to fill out the: US Fish and Wildlife Service Declaration for Importation or Exportation of Fish or Wildlife Form. USFWS Form 3-177
Their website: www.fws.gov
any questions, you can email arturo_enriquez@fws.gov 360-332-5388

Bring the reciept.

And be prepared to wait in a few different lines... The discus were in the car, until they had to look at them. I didn't have to carry them around.

Thanks April.

some great info here... do you have to get your impor number(license/50 CFR 14) before you cross the border or you can get it at the border? How much in fees/taxes that you had paid at the custom?

Tony

No import license, when you say, for personal use. Don't say you are going to breed and resale them.

Just fill out form: USFWS Form 3-177 at the wildlife window.
they had the form at the counter. But the wildlife person was locked inside his little room, with the form. Think we woke him up... He also looked up on the internet to see if Discus was endangered species.
I went thru the truck crossing at Blaine, not the arch crossing.

I do not pay ANY taxes... go figure, I was expecting to but... I didn't offer.
took about half an hour, 3 lines, 2 buildings.

hey guys

i shipped my fish to seattle or washington state and other states many times I had no problems. I agreed with april to say that.

its very important to put down an invoice scientific name of Discus: Symphysodon would be no problems.

April knows how to package the fish and shipping would be no problems.

cheers
Duncan
