Hi guys, ive had my hifin pigeon blood i bough from my lfs for about a month now. he had a good amount of peppering when i got him. Well he's been doing pretty good, then just now i sat down in front of the tank and for the first time i can see his verticle stripes! He's also a bit lighter (white) on the areas where he's supposed to be white... and on his face pattern... I'm not sure if i should be happy or concerned... It's very strange, his peppering has reduced a lot within a day?

Help me out

thks

the bars in my opinion don't necessarily mean that your discus are stressed. i have a couple that are always showing their bars. snap a few pictures and we can further help you out here if you are concerned.

that looks normal to me. if anything i would advise on lighter background and lighter substrate if you dont already have some. all the peppering you are seeing is part of the bars in case you werent aware

Lots of things can make the peppering on a pigeon blood become more pronounced or fade. Many people think the appearance of peppering is undersireable and go to great effort to make it fade. In fact, most breeders selectively breed to weed out peppering. A lighter background and substrate will definitely reduce the appearance of peppering. I have also heard that keeping your lights on for a longer period will reduce peppering. There are lots of posts on peppering if you care to seach the site.

Cheers,
Mike

Did you make a drastic change in his tank?

Is that the only discus in the tank? If it is, get him some buddies, discus naturally live in groups, it'll do better with mates.:)
