Hi All,
As I am planning to set up my new 6'x2'x2' planted discus community tank, I was wondering if two FX5's would be too much flow for a (hopefully) fully planted tank, Discus style.

It was either going to be (2)x Eheim 2080's, (2)x FX5's or 1 of each.
I know the (2)x Eheim's would most likely be fine, but I'm not sure about (2)x FX5's.

It's just that the FX5 is quoted as having a flow rate of 3,500ltr/hr and the Eheim is 1700ltr/hr.

And yes, Eheim 2080 is better then the FX5, but and the FX5 is soooo... much cheaper and the FX5 hasn't got a bad write up.

Many Kindly Fishy Regards
Jason

yeah i had read that whole article before which is what got me looking at the fx5. at the time it was out of my range because i was just looking for 1 canister filter. in the end i had to end up buying 2 xp3's so 1 fx5 might have been cheaper in the long run

hi silver,
i have a 125g planted tank with two fx5 and i have not a single problem, i just put the exhaust slightly up towards the waters surface and its never been a problem for me or my fish! matter of fact they sometimes play in the current.. fyi, these filters kick ***.

I have a couple of FX5's and there is a flow control. I've seen many posts on many boards concerning this question and it seems that for mech filtraton the FX5 is better, the Ehiem being better on the bio side. So, my assumption for you with a planted tank would be the FX5 setup.

I wish I could find the side by side comparison, it may be on one of the monster aquaria network boards.
