Just adding these pictures so I will have a record of the start of these discus. It will be nice to compare them with the after pictures when they are one year old. These pictures are pretty color accurate and they seem to be developing a little more red as time goes by.

Nice pics Bill! Really nice!:D

Hey, these close-ups were with you in mind. There is quite a variance in the amount of color and patterns in these discus. Not sure what they will turn out like as adults but sure they will be nice.
Thanks for the compliments.

Cool, thanks! I think my 2 favorites are the one in the first pic, upper left, got kind of a checker board thing going on, and I really like the one in the last pic. Solid golden body.

i was thinking the exact same thing when i saw the pics, the one discus looks like it has a checker board pigeon pattern

I went back to the original post where Al described the contest discus, "They are albino Crosses.. Golden albino crossed to spotted albinos..." So I guess that's where the variance comes from. You know, I havn't followed all the albino's strains but you can be assured I will now. All I remember reading was how difficult they were to breed, getting the fry to attach to parents. I know....that's a long way away but........:)

Bill:

You are growing some really nice fish. They are going to look even better when they get older, you think they might get more red in the fins the older they get? That would look really nice.
Nice job.

Hey Bill,

Kirk

Kirk, it's hard to estimate if there is growth yet as they are right in the busiest area of the house and I see them almost all day long. I think the largest two or three may have grown about a quarter inch or a little more but that may be some wishful thinking. I do know my extremely soft water is not supposed to get the best growth rate so hoping the good food will make up for the soft water. However I am not supplementing their food with calcium or minerals just what's in the food naturally. I have read other sources that is all that's needed, like they grow in the wild. We just moved to this area not long ago and really hoping this contest will help all of us to learn something.

Hey Bill,

I hear ya. I look at my fish several times a day and it's hard to tell if or how much they've grown. Like you, I THINK they have but can't say for sure.

Bill, very nice pics. I like it when Discus pose in that bending motion as in the 3rd pic, it looks as though they are going to attack grrr. :D Cant wait to see the before/after pics in 50wks!

Ahmed ;)
