Well, another week has gone by and time for the post update. Man, I can't believe how fast time is flying by. Things have been going very well. The fish have been eating like little pigs and they really aren't too picky about what I put in for food. Still aren't too keen on brine shrimp, they'll eat it but they don't attack it like they do everything else. I've still got my bully in there who also happens to be the biggest. Funny thing is that another one has started to show up that will stand up to the first. It also turns out to be the smallest one. :) The fish seem to be getting more color to them as well as the torquise striations are becoming more evident. At least in person because the darn flash washes out colors. Obviously still need to play with the camera settings and quit being lazy using auto mode.

I made a change to the tank decorations within the last week. After the tank had been up for a bit, I put a piece of grapevine in for a change of scenery. Well, it developed the whitish growth on it that wood so often does. I put a BN pleco in there to take care of it but he just wasn't doing the job as fast as I'd like. Then I noticed that one of the fish was rubbing his gill plate against the flower pot. Well, I decided to get rid of the real wood and put in a fake piece. Things seem to be going better after that.

The two smallest ones in my group are the bully's but it seems everyone does a good job giving it right back.:D

Thanks for the update.!!

Kirk, they are looking good to me. I found more settings on my camera and I also need to play with it more.

Thanks everyone for your responses. These fish are doing great for me, pays to start with some good stock. I THINK they've grown some but when you stare at something all the time it's hard to tell. I think I'm going to go buy a tripod this weekend for my camera to see if it helps get me better pictures. When I compare my pics with the fish, they seem washed out to me. However when I compare my fish with some of the others, they seem pale. Think I need to play with my food and see if I can come up with something that will help pump the colors.

Good luck to all.

Hi Kirk,

I think your fish look great. The flash may be washing the colors a little. Maybe you can turn the ISO setting to 800 - 1600 and it may automaticlly reduce the amount of flash. Another thing I do is grab a chair that is near to rest my hand on to steady the camera, works for my old shaky hands. Poor man's tripod.:o

Your discus look great, all the fins erect, looks like they feel great. Gotta be doing everything they like. :D:D:D

Thanks for the advice Bill. I've got this digital camera that's not a SLR but they call it DSLR like. Doesn't have interchangeable lenses but you can use it in the various modes (A, S, M, etc). However I've been to lazy to really try to figure it out so I just use it in the auto mode. I'll give your suggestions a shot.

Hey Kirk, you are a man, real men don't read manuals. :D
That's also one of those things that's on my list to do when I get the time. :)
