ClorAm-X or Prime

I almost finish my 4-liter bottle of Prime .. I am thinking of switching over to ClorAm-X, 'cause it seems cheaper then Prime.

Anyone have success switching from Prime to ClorAm-X ?

Are you talking about the liquid ClorAm-X? If so, the dosing for the liquid ClorAm-X is 1 tsp. (5 ml) per 10 gals. of water. With Prime its 1 tsp. (5 ml), which treats 50 gals. of water. Seems that with the liquid form, anyway, a lot more must be used than Prime, so it may not really be a savings.

I have used it before with no problems. I bought the 1LB jar from Kens, but I went thru it much quicker than I thought I would. I never knew the exact amount to use. There were conflicting dosages from other users and from their website. Does anyone know what the proper dosage is? I mean TSP=per ? gallons...not grams or weight. Thanks...Bill

SPECIFICATIONS

ClorAm-XTM is a single-phase, dechlorinating (chlorine removing), deaminating (ammonia removing), and dechloraminating (chloramine removing) agent. It is a white powder that is essentially odorless (upon long-term storage the product may develope a very slight odor) and completely soluble in water.

Dosage: use 1 teaspoon (~ 5 mL) per 10 gallon of water.

Thanks Francis. That was what I was finally using. I think I read somewhere that 1/4 TSP treated 40 gallons. But at the 1 tsp per 10 gal. I went thru it pretty fast. I did notice a slight tint to the water when I was lacking on waterchanges. With my blue painted tanks, there was a purple tint to the water, that went away after a water change, and never happened when using PRIME. I would like to try it again, but I think the dosage amount for the two, equates or averages out to be about the same. 5 TSP of powder to 1 capfull of liquid...both treat 50 gallons...Bill

Hi Guys,
This might be one reason people are confused about it. This is directly off the PDF file on ClorAm-X from the manufacturer. It says to use 1/4 tsp per 10gals, which is what I use. You can increase the dose if your ammonia goes above 1ppm, in which case you need to add an extra 1/4tsp/10gals for each additional 1ppm ammonia.

water to remove 1.0 mg/L total ammonia (as NH3, 0.8 mg/L as
ammonia-nitrogen), 2.1 mg/L free chlorine, and 3.2 mg/L chloramines
(as NH2Cl).
NOTE: We use the units of measure, "mg/L" (milligrams per liter)
instead of "ppm" (parts per million) because it is a more precise term.
