Well, week six has passed and these guys are sure an enjoyment to have around.
The water parameters have stayed the same, 65 microseimens, 30 parts per million,
ph 6.5 with 0 nitrites and 0 ammonia. The nitrates stay less than 5 ppm because of the
large seventy five percent water changes.

When these guys first got here and I did a water change they really did not like it much.
I started giving them Hikari pellets when I refilled their tank. Being the little pigs they are
I thought it might take their mind off the water change. Boy did that work, now every water change
they know they are going to get fed. They usually swim back and forth across the front of the
tank until I come up then they try to climb out of the water to get their pellets. :D

Filling the tank doesn't bother them at all, as long as they think they will get fed. They would
eat right under the stream of water if I would put their pellets there.

But I am usually kind to them and dump their pellets at the other end of the tank so they
can enjoy their pellets in quitter water. :)

This is Spot, growing up, easily over four inches now.

This is Spots look alike sibling.

I added a short video this week instead of the tank shot. The video shows how they constantly run the length of
the tank looking for food. Never satisfied but always full.
There is some close-up shots of them in the video also, hope everyone enjoys.

Bill, you are doing a great job. I enjoy your posts. Got a question though. What are you giving them to color up so nicely.

Thanks Steve and Eddie like you say, water is the key, just like the weeds in my front yard, water them and they grow like crazy. :D

Bill, you are doing a great job. I enjoy your posts. Got a question though. What are you giving them to color up so nicely.

Hey Jim, just feeding a pretty basic diet, raw beefheart / raw shrimp mixed at 50% each twice a day, Omega One standard flakes three or four times
and at noon water change Hikari discus pellets. Have to be careful with the pellets, either soak them first for feed very little because they will swell up.
They scared me the first time I fed them the little guys looked like golf balls with fins. :o I cut way back on the pellets I feed now.
So I would guess the most color enhancing part of their diet would be the raw shrimp.
Thanks for the compliments Jim.

They look great! I like the subtle variations in these fish. No two are exactly alike. Keep up the good work.

Hi Ahmed, thank you for the weekly compliments. :)
It is a pleasure posting updates of these healthy discus. Each week they just look a little better.
They are pigs, there is never one minute of the day they are not begging for food. If I ate like they do I would be four hundred pounds. :D
Take care,

Bill

We all are raising the contest discus just a little different but given good fish and the good care everyone is giving their fish it will be a close contest.
Al picked a pretty good group of experienced contestants. Everyone is doing great.
Thanks for the compliments Kirk and hope your fish fish grow into beauties. :)

They are all different and the colors are changing slightly as time goes by. Will be interesting to see them as adults.
Thank you for the compliments. :)
Take care Chris,

Hi Kenny,

I give them all the food and water they want.
Can't take credit for the vibrancy and braveness, that has to be given to you for getting us healthy discus for the competition. They are very enjoyable to have. :)
Thanks for the compliments and the discus.
