Hello all!

I have just spent some time looking for some info
on this topic. Tried other forums, but thought I would
ask here. I have a planted 60 gallon with eco-complete
and Discus. Plants and fish are doing just fine. Been
set up for over a year. I was reading and wanted
to try mineralized soil capped with sand. Good for
the plants and good for the Discus when feeding.
Plus
I wanted to go with white sand. Anyone have some
comments about this approach. I will need to do
frequent water changes for the Discus, but some
have said that this may cause algae problems.
Given time, won't everything settle in to a
balance so that I can continue with weekly
water changes.

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff,

What kind of soil did you plan on using?

Best wishes!

I have been preparing the soil with wet/ dry
process. I bought a bag of topsoil. Went to
a fertilizer making yard and got the cheapest
topsoil. It's just plain dirt. Out of the bag
looks soft and of ash color. Just need to
sift it out.
