I m a noob in growing out juvies, I know they need constant feeding, WC, and high temperatures 87 to 90 to grow. Can it be done with a 10 gallon tank for 2 1" juvies?

Can you get more than the 2? They really need to be in a small school, especially when so small and delicate. Lots of water changes will be necessary. Others will check in with you I am sure!

No; Discus when well cared for grow fast and they tend to pick on each other if you have to few. I have had some luck with 4 discus but 5 or more is better.
A 29 is ok if you can upgrade to a 55 or larger in a few months. All of this IMO; Many will recomend starting with a 55 and it is a good idea.
Make sure you are prepaired for water changes. Discus require a lot more water changes than other tropicals. Don T.

I normally would't recommend a 10 gal tank for anything related to discus, especially a growout. however, since (if i read correctly) you are only growing out 2, i don't see why not. IMO, growing out 2 may not be worth the effort.

that was funny.....there were no replies when i hit reply, but when i posted there were 3. actually, tho you said juvies, i had 2 "fry" on my mind. in such case....again, I wouldn't recommend a 10 gal tank for anything related to discus

Well I guess I’ll have to wait. A local breeder has some juvies for sale and the parents are awesome, but it seems I don’t have the tank to do it. Guess I’ll have to pass it up. Thanks!

how long until you can get a new (larger) tank?

I have a 60 that I am upgrading to an 80 should have everything transfered by the end of July. So about three weeks.

Maybe the breeder will wait 2-3 weeks until you are ready if you commit to buying 5 or6. By then the discus will be a little larger and a little hardier. One inch fry are pretty fraglile IMO.

A 10 is for hospital/treatment.

Getting 2 baby juvies is not a good idea at all. Really young juveniles can be very hard to keep if you have never done it before.

I think the suggestion to wait another month would be best. The fish will be larger and you'll be better prepared. ;)

I'd get 8 to be on the safe side, especially if they are very small

I wish I had the room for eight. Currently I have five in my main and I wanted to transfer them once I grew them. I think I can have nine maximum when I get my 80 going. My wife will kill me if I try to establish one more permanent tank. She already thinks I spend too much time with one.:p

Dude, no matter what, you'll be getting more tanks one way or another! LOL

If you need tips/tactics, let me know. Started out with one tank, now I have 10! LOL

Most of us will agree that you should start with at least 6 1" in a 29 gal and as they gro moved them into a 55 gal. You goal is about 10gal per adult fish.

1 inch, that is super small. Best to start at 3" and above if you are fairly new to raising discus. ;)

Took your advice Chris, I asked the breeder actually, he’s a sponsor Bill from Inland Empire Discus he has some sweet looking Albino Red Turks. He said he will be growing out a couple and to contact him in about a month.

I think I am getting the best from both, don't tell her that though...:o

Gets expensive though, but hey....you only live once so do it while you can! ;)
