After reading a thread about how most of us watch our fish for hours, I thought it would be fun to show off our fish Sanctuaries..

Hey Barb,
Here are a few more shots of the low tech planted community tank...If you asked me what plants are in there I would not have a clue.. :o:o Everything just seems to work out in that tank.. It seems like when people come over that is the tank they love.. However, for me I rather sit and watch the Discus all night. Once my guys are adults I will be turning one of their tanks into a planted Discus tank.

Hope you enjoy.. Thanks

WOW Jerry, I love that clean set-up! I wanted to do something like that in the dining room but the Boss wouldn't have it. I'll keep trying to convince her though, by showing her pictures of your set-up. Looks super clean, and very nicely put together. I'll get some shots of mine later this week, after I get in my 2 shipments. :D

Take care!

Eddie

Thanks Eddie,.. I wouldn't be allow to have them either unless it was a clean look..More important. That I keep it clean!!! lol..At first it was a pain to do the WCs but I worked it out so it's easy again.. Can't wait to see your set up and your new fish..

Hendri,
Not sure what stand you are talking about.. The picture of the 4 tank wall is DIY project made of stained 4x4 & braces, and concrete blocks cost was under $75.. The tank and stand in the living room like all my tanks came off Craigslist so I can't help you on that one..
WoW your tanks look great!! How large is that massive one in the middle...Man that is a great SHOW tank..

Thanks for the pictures of that beautiful planted tank Jerry! It is just gorgeous. Reminds me of a garden with that little pagoda in there. Your fish are soooooo colorful. It makes me wonder why other tropicals don't get dark like discus do with a dark substrate. Great job with those plants!

hey Jerry, that fish room looks great and relaxing. also, i see you are using the fusion air pump, do you like it? i have one and i really like it. i have it hooked up to a 4 way gangvalve and it works great.

Karen, great fishroom as well. that is more on a larger scale which is what i would like to have one day. i wish i had a basement to do something like that in but seeing as i have never in all of my 25 years of living in LA seen a house with a basement i'm thinking they are too rare to even look to purchase one, lol. i will have to settle with an actual room in the house which is not bad at all ;), i'll take what i can get

The Pagoda was for Eddie...LOL

that looks so inviting, and that chair..just to lay there and read and watch..how nice! Wonderful!

It is peaceful. That is where I start my day with coffee and usually end my day falling a sleep in there...

Wow.. I would love to have a basement.. Eventhough we live in Columbus OH and basements are common we chose to build a house without a basement since being born and raised in California basements are uncommon, we thought we did not need one. .. Big MISTAKE..Now I am envious of all basements... You know us Californians, we think we know everything..:o:o Wrong again..

IT is relaxing.. I believe the Fusion is the best air pump out their for the price and it's quiet!!!

Jerry, what were the brands of paint and the colors that you used for the backgrounds of the 55g tanks? I like both of those blue colors.

Karen, what thickness is that insulation around the tanks?

Do you mean the insulation on the water storage barrels? I don't have insulation around any of my actual fish tanks. The water storage barrels just have that insulation you can buy at Home Depot and places like it meant for water heaters. I'd guess it's about 1/2" thick or so.

The color you see on three of the tanks is True Blue Gloss.. See the link below .. However you can pick it up at Walmart for $4 or less.. Not sure about the one other tank since I threw that can away..

Today's new addition to the house/fish room:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c285/KJoFan/fish%20room/DSC07275.jpg

Water softener and a house sized DI chamber. I can choose to bypass the whole works for my usual tap water, or use the DI/softened water, or use the DI/softened water through my existing RO unit for the fishes.

Karen, I thought you had blue insulation on the back and sides of your tanks, however after I looked again it appears that they are just painted blue. I like that color and that's why I asked.

Thanks Jerry. I was thinking about painting the backs of the tanks but now I'm having second thoughts because the paint will block most of the ambient light from the window in the basement. If I do decide to paint them I think I will go with that darker blue for lighter colored fish and lighter blue for darker colored fish.

Ah, I see it now, on top of the sediments filters. How many GPD on that? Are you using well water??

Ed

KJoFan
08-11-2009, 11:42 AM
Well I actually have two up there. The small 2 canister one you see on top, has no membrane in it. I'm using that to filter my tap water (municipal supply) through a couple carbon filters.

Below that is my larger 5-6 stage unit. It has a DI canister, which I was only using for my saltwater tanks. I use only the RO for my discus. It's a...150 gpd unit I believe. It's also got a booster pump on it you'll see above it, kind of to the left.

Bryan- yes it's only paint, no insulation. Most of the tanks I believe are painted with Krylon Fusion paint from Walmart...whatever the light blue color is called. I'm unsure right off the top of my head. I did not paint the 125 before I put it up and am wishing I had now. :(

Great stuff Karen, I really enjoyed seeing your set up(no its not messy)and how everything is put together. I will try to get some pics up soon of my set up. Half the grow out stand is done. Im doing a oxytetracycline treatment(Lights out) so its hard to get pics. GE has a the Merlin RO system that produces 700 GAD with booster pump. Again great to see it.thx:p

Awesome spaces everyone! Jerry i like that blue color as well. The lighter blue kind of looks like my "Blue Ocean Breeze" i think its called. Here is my VERY humble collection, these are older pictures of what i had amassed in my room at my parent's place. :D (Not many fish pictured in the tanks though heh)

Not real sure to be honest. Grabbed it for a couple of bucks (under 5) at the last local club auction. The hole as it was explained to me was for the previous owner to be able to use a hook to reach into a deeper tank and pull the cone out without freaking the fish out with his hand.
