I'm wondering if a hagen elite double sponge filter will work for filtration, it is already seeded and been my tank for 4-6 weeks. I also have a fx5 on my 125G, and found some one interested in the fx5, I want to turn my 125 in to a fowlr tank. I have 7 discus in the 125G will they be with just the double sponges as filtration till I can sell them or should I get another double sponge filter so I have 4 sponges for filteration in the 125G.

I don't think so... I'd hold onto the fx5 until the discus are gone, or until a lot more filtration via sponges has been established...

You can speed up the establishment of new sponges by cleaning the fluval and your sponge in a bucket of tank water, squeeze the new sponges in and out a few times in there afterwards... it'll still take awhile...

Got Prime? you may need it...

how many sponges would work? I traded the fx5 for a sump and skimmer, and got the saltwater bug. but haven't put salt in the water, I just have the dead sand, and water in there. I fill like cleaning it back up and possible going back to discus. I know I know :argue:make up your mind joey.

I am sure 2 Oxygen Plus 10s would do the trick, no problem.

Eddie may well be right- dunno. I'm sure that more sponges than necessary is way better than not enough, no matter how you look at it...

cool think I'm going to do the 125 and a big saltwater fish tank, then find a 55-75 on craigslist for a group of discus.
