Hello, I bought a couple of tanks and they are drilled but the holes are covered with a piece of glass. Can someone please let me know how/ ways to losen up the silicone so I can slide a knift or blade underneath the piece of glass. Many thanks in advance.

The best way to cut siliconed glass is with a solid steel guitar string. Make a couple of handles from wooden dowels by wrapping the string around itself on the dowel to use for handles and saw by pulling back and forth through the silicone.

I used a one-sided hacksaw and blade. The blade can easily flex flat and slide through the silicone. Though I may grab a string off the kid next door's guitar, it sure couldn't make his playing sound any worse... :D

Get a super flexiable putty knife (1.5-2""wide)and sharpen the end good..work around the patch cutting the silicone until it loosens up,odds will have it that you will break the patch peice of glass...Keep in mind not to exert to much force and break the tank..

You can also go to hd, lowes, or ace to the plumbing supply and get a wire pvc cutter. It will zip right through it.

I use the guitar string one now also but I used to use a normal putty knife (http://www.ngkmetals.com/image/store/productImages/K-25-PuttyKnife.jpg)and tapped it gently with a hammer. As long as the main glass is on a firm flat surface it should be fine.

I use a pvc cutter too. Just bare in mind no matter what you decide to use make sure to go slow. If you're in a hurry that day let it wait.
