what are some ways to disinfect plants [Archive]

What are some ways to sanitize plants to treat them for diseases, parasites, etc… Two of my discus shake, scratch and hid a lot plus there fins were clamped and loss of appetite. As soon as I took out my plant they stop scratching and hiding, swimming around with there fins erect scavenging for food now. Is this something plants can cause or was this a coincidence? Anyone info would be great.
