Hello All from the UK!

Just thought id pop in, say hello, say im new to discus keeping and.. well thats about all i can say really.

Have a 50gal tank with 3 discus and 1 in QT at the moment as it needs to grow a bit, he's very cute at 1.5" though, but anyway, heres a few pics of my discus, i have 2 red turq and 1 red dragon so far.

Also id like to apologise for the poor pics, for some reason my phone took 1 full sized pic and then resized everything else.. id sell my gf for a DSLR right now =-)

Comments welcomed!

Thank you all for the lovely comments, im really pleased with the discus, the turqs were quite pale with little or no colouration on them when i bought them but lately the red is coming through and same with the turqouise.

Regarding BIDKA i am certainly hoping to attend but i like in west yorkshire near leeds to its a bit of a trek with petrol prices as they are and with chrimbo coming up but i certainly hope to be there, itll be my first =-)

Hi Guys.

Just got a quick question for you all.

My first discus were my 2 red turqs, now they lived together perfectly fine although the larger one (seen in the pics) was always nipping the other discus and the odd chase here and there, i dont think it was sinister i think it was trying to court the other red turq, up until lately the littler discus hasnt been interested.

Last night i was messing about in the tank to get rid of 2 rainbow cichlids that bred and the babies were left for a bit of live food for the discus.

About an hour or two after their treat the larger red turq was again making moves on the smaller red turq, but this time the smaller turq responded, both would wag their tails at each other, nip each other and they actually lip locked for about 3 seconds or so.

I understand discus have agression issues but once the lip lock was over they kind of calmed down? Do you guys think this is agression or courtship behaviour?

They don't constantly chase or bite each other, they only do it now and again and it doesnt seem to bother either of them.

Really hoping its courtship lol =-)

Hard to say, I am not an expert by any means but most of my pairs, if not all tend to do the whole chasing around, lip locking, tail slapping and what not. But, this also happens between all the my fish. Guess that doesn't help much but I wouldn't be worried about it, they are cichlids, its in their nature.

Yea typical cichlids lol.

Ah well, thought i might have gotten lucky, bit worried as the one who is the littleist is getting picked on a little, need to expand my stock asap but no money to get another one for a few weeks.

My Blue Turq is only about 1.5" so i dont know if he will be safe if i move him?
