I got this from a friend and he called it a green mumba(which is a jack wattley strain right? ) but to me it looks more like a blue diamond, or koltbolt , or possible a miss of a blue damond and koltbolt.

it's an adult easy 6-7 inches.

i think it looks a little under the weather as well. the caudal fin is pretty much burnt off.

so it's a sick fish, and you say the caudal fin aka tail fin looks burnt off, what do you think caused that, how do I treat that. or could he just be stressed, because it was a cold morning when I got him monday(then earlier tonight(tuesday I did a 50-75% water change).I guess i'm not smart and I should go out and find a 20L or 29 gallon for a QT. but lately I've been getting my fish from usa aquariums, and he lets me even go back and look at the breeders, and test the water, and shows me that they will eat.. but this one I got from a friend, and it was in a tank with 2 wild caughts and about 15-20 serpae tetras. the tank has been the same for 4-6 months.

here are some more photos. I can take more.

damn, I don't have any QT tanks, does any one here in the dfw texas area have a QT tank I can borrow. well damn my PH is 7.6 the ammonia is .50 and the nitrATE is 10 looks like I will be going on craigslist to find a QT tank, I called my friend and he told me the fish was swimming fine when he had it, and had it for 6 months and would eat every day. those reading are after a water chance of 75% last night. what can I do to lower the ph? ALSO WHAT ILLNESS DOES THIS DISCUS HAVE!

ok now, for some reason the discus is not showing the black lines and starting to show some more blue. :) could it be just a poor quality blue diamond?
I'll take a video. maybe it was just stressed.

the ammonia is .50 and the nitrATE is 10 !

Ammonia > 0ppm = Bad.

Do some large water changes until your tank has caught up with the bioload.

I just did a 75% Procent water change last night, should I do another water change of 75% Procent. also maybe I should cut down on feeding 1 cube of blood worms per each two fish right.
bioload I don't think I have a very big bioload. 1 adult discus, 3 sub adult discus, and 9 cory catfish. would adding a power filter help, I already have 4 sponge filters.

Was your tank fully cycled when you added the new Discus?

You shouldn't ever find Ammonia in a cycled tank.

More water changes will definitely take down the Ammonia.

You can also add Prime or Amquel plus, that will stop it being Toxic to your fish until the bacteria can break it down.

I added the fish monday morning, then did the 75% water change with tap water and added prime as it filled up.. I just bought some ph down. I also still have my 32 gallon rubber maid trash bin, that I was going to use for discus and never did. I guess I will be using it now and age the tap water, then add it after it has aged for 24 hours. a guy here close offer me a 10 gallon to QT it in, I'm going to go pick it up.

nitrite-0
and I i'm not sure if I have a KH and gh test kit.
found a red sea freshwater kh and gh test kit
KH the card says start and that blue and end with a pink I couldn't even get any color it's clear.

the GH card is the same way and it came up with a light pink color.

what does this mean?

I did how ever go down the road to the discus breeder where I've been getting my discus showed him photos, and he gave me some medication.
the discus seems to be getting better now.

i would not use ph down, it is not needed. stay on top of your wc regimen, as in doing at least 50% WC until you are sure that the tank is cycled. use some regular cooking salt @ 1tbs/10g to help with the fin damage. if that fish came from a tank that had wild caught discus then this fish mighthave worms at the very least.

tbs is table spoon, I agree with Ric do not use ph down and mess with that as you may do more damage than good. I live in Utah and we have extremely high Ph and my discus do great, breed even.
