Had som issues with ph and microsimens due to wrong peat.
PH 5,2 and 25-30 µs
But now I think I found the correct batch.

Took an test in my 220l storage osmos/peatbucket tank
ph 4,1 and 9 µs seems like the values that seems perfect.

The ph could drop a little more, my phstick is a little slow.
Perhaps i need to mix peat to hold the ph over 4.

Here is some pics from my tanks.

An little update.

Yesterday a tought that the batch had been eaten, cause I could only see a few on the glas here and there. Today I could see a swarm trying to attach to the heckels on the other tank ( neighbors)

It seems like the parents had moved them again, first time that a pair moves it batch 2 times..

Anyhow... happy to see them I took out the spong, the neighbors and in with air in the other side of the tank.

1 hour and the pair had collected all the fries.
It seems like the fries prefer the wild side

Dont think I have mention that heckels are not newly imported. The fish comes from Göran Ekholm in the first place.
They are a little older now, not in so good shape, but they are getting there i belive.

Hi Ben!

It´s going well i think.

The Red Cover Female is the most dominante of the two.
I have seen 3 or 4 dead fry (do you spell it fries? plese tell me so I learn)

Heres is a fresh video from today

Even got som redwood from a local store today.
and were thinking to put them down in the the heckel tank.
But I could see that an male heckel were shaking and a fish that I tought were an hecke male were accepted in the area, and / she/ were picking on the same wood. not shaking (what I can see)

anyhow.... this is the wood that I bought today.
( still have some toughts about insert the redwood qiuck, cause the male is really a B***erd against other fish.

I dream of the day when I can achieve what you are doing. Thanks for sharing. I'm sure you tank will look outstanding when your done. How many fish will be in the tank?

Robert

Beautifull fish and an amazing future setup.

My thought about the wood : if it hasn't been in a tank yet it will have to be sterilised. Not only will it release tannins but it may have some fungus on it that will destroy any spawn. I would definetely use that wood for a heckel tank, but not with the breeders until it has been thoroughly cleaned (boiled).

Thanks for sharing and please keep posting, I'm following this thread with pleasure (and envy I must admit) !

Those are fabulous! I love them! Are they from the Heckel cross RR? They have some amazing shape and I love the deep red/brown with striations. I think these will be some very interesting Red Turks as adults.

Thanks for updating!

Real nice! But now all my discus look like crap!!!

poddan

Thanks!
Yes they are the first offspring.
Someone grows nicely , a few dont grow at all.

The male is back in the Heckel tank and the female still goes with the offspring.
She has settled down a bit, The most evil female I ever had.
Well... I am married and.... but don´t count that one.:D

The Heckel male seems to paired up with a female.. I hope.
Well he dont beat the crap out of one fish so, think I´m gonna try to move them when I got the time and space.

Have some single fish and some youngsters that still needs the tank.

Would be interesting to know how many who had a female heckel to breed with a domestic.

Could you trigger that female with a trigger happy domestic male then maybe it could be some easier to get some results with Heckel x Heckel.

Eddie

Heckel X domestic is pretty common, generally with males. I haven't seen many female heckels hook up. Would be interesting, to have the domestic female in the group Heckels and spawn. This might trigger some loving throughout the tank. :o

Hi Poddan - Those are beautiful heckels - can I ask who you bought it from and how much can I expect to pay for Mari Mari/Abaxci? thx

poddan
08-22-2011, 04:21 PM
Oh so sorry to not to have seen your question before.
Mari Mari is to my experience to most non expensive discus.
I paid 100 dollar / pcs for small Mari. And that felt expensive. it were from a store and a pricelist from retailer.

Thoose lagre one´s,and for the blue face were secondhand ( theird hand actually ) so to speak.
I gave so were little as 50 dollar / pcs. He really wanted them to go.

If I would go to an discus specialist who is a good friend ( and probobly the best overall in discus in sweden) and often takes in heckels and other wild I would say that he has an good price for nice ones at 150 dollar
Blue face would would probobly cost more and a litte more then that.
But the should be in good class.. really good and when he post picture they always are.

The price for fish alwasy varies with shipment cost(country) and so on.
But my 5 cent is that mari mari are kind of cheap.. neverthenless. really pretty.
Look at pictures in heikos book. got to love them.
