I just cant seem to get really nice fish in my area without having to sell a kidney (wont do). So it seems for the past few years after I purchase I always find some issues with the fish I have purchased.

Recently I purchased some Turqs. After gtting them home and comparing them to one of the nicer fish in my tank they seem to have had HITHqat some point and theit fins look as if they have been damaged (probly by the angel that was being kept with them).

My question is do you feel that these problems will eventually clear up? I am pretty certian the HITH holes will not but what about the fins?

Thanks.

we have so many sponsors on this site, and all of them ship. if quality is what you are after they have it, i can personally speak of Kenny as being a great seller that goes above and beyond in all aspects. secondly, in regards to the HITH i really doubt that the holes will ever heal all the way, they might stay with the craters on their face. as far as the fins it really depends how bad it is. do you have pics?

Yes, I saw the sponsors fish and will say that they are unbelievable.

I just acclimated the fish last night and am letting them calm down. Hopefully what I get home I can snap some shots.

Thanks for the help.

I completely agree with Ricardo. Our sponsors have very nice discus. Mike of "Midwest Discus" is in your area (if you are still in STL) and you should definitely check him out. He should have a decent selection and his quality is great. He breeds so he usually has fry for sale. If you don't want to spend an arm and a leg then buy some fry and grow them out in a 55g barebottom tank. It's a lot of work but definitely fun to do.

Also, believe it or not, it is often more cost effective to purchase larger, and healthy discus of good quality. The ones that you purchased definitely have HITH and you are going to be spending money on meds to treat them, which will probably end up costing you just as much (if not more) than buying nice quality stock that is healthy. Not sure how much you paid for your turqs, but there are quite a few strains of quality fish that can be had for $20-25 each around 2.5-3"+ (not including tail). Shipping from on of the sponsors would be in the ballpark of $90 (FedEx Overnight). Maybe talk with Mike of Midwest Discus (http://forum.simplydiscus.com/forumdisplay.php?f=156 ) and see if you can piggyback on an order with him to split shipping. Seems like he is constantly buying new stuff.

As mentioned above, that one fish definitley has HITH. Start off with clean water, feed them with quality food high in vitamins, and a course of Metro may also be needed.

I dont believe the HITH is "active" and still effecting the fish. They are all acting normal and actually have nice coloring. I really got these for a steal and I have a soft spot for sick fish, not that these are bad at all.

Look like you forgot to put your new fish in a QT for few weeks. You never know what you take home with your new fish.

It could simply be caused by a poor diet and/or poor water quality. As long as you keep them on a good diet and maintenance your tank regularly you should be fine, but keep an eye on it.
