Many aquarists consider this and bladderwort (Utricularia) to be pests in the aquarium.

It's a pain to get rid of. Though lots of fish like it (killies for instance). I don't know if discus do better with it though I'm sure some one on here can tell us. I'm pretty obsessive about keeping it out of my tanks just because I don't like it.

yeah they can grow fast and get annoying and can clog up the filter intake. you should get something bigger...like the bigger floaters such as mini lettuce among other ones.

yeah had a really bad duckweed experience. It came in, just a few leaves, with some other plants I bought.

About three weeks later the entire surface of my tank was covered with the stuff. In the morning I would scoop it out by the netful and it seemed by the time I got home from work it had multiplied and covered the surface again.

Other plants suffered because there was no light reaching them.

It took me a really long time to finally get it all out of the tank.

Yeah I wash any and all new plants very thoroughly and then put them in my QT tank for a few weeks so as not introduce duckweed and/or new algae.
