Hi everyone!! Im new to SIMPLY!!

Ok so I need some advice from people who have used both canister and wet dry filters. I have a 55 gallon right now which is BB but plan on upgrading to about 90 gallon planted.

I know that wet/dry are not recomended for planted because of degassing but I dont think I will be injecting CO2.

I would like peoples opinion on what tye of filter is easier to clean and which one is better suited.

If I do get a canister I was looking into the pro II line by Eheim.

I was also thinking if I got the canister I would start using it on my 55 until I upgraded.

Any advice is much appreciated... Happy to be part of this great forum!!

THANKS

I use all eheims and have not had a single problem....plus they are fairly easy to clean too.

I also agree regarding the Eheims. I use a Pro 3 2075 and an Ecco 2236 on my 90g BB (upgraded from a 55g), both fitted with Filter Max III sponge prefilters to keep 'em clean inside (a must!). The same goes for my 20g planted, which has a Pro 1 2224 and prefilter as well.

When I first came back to discus, I acquired a pennplax cascade 1200 as part of a used aquarium deal, and it's done it's job without fuss for over a year now. Very large media capacity. I use sponges, biorings, and the eheim stuff. I have no experience with canisters of any other brand, but I know blkrob swears by his Rena's.

When I expanded, I bought another 1200 because my experience had been good, and because the price is really, really nice from kensfish when compared to other brands. Parts are a little tough to find, but these guys have everything-

Running a 2078 Pro IIIe myself for a 110gal tank. Very happy with it. You cannot even hear it!

i have a eheims 2028,2026, and 2078

also have a fluval fx5.

when their size considered, eheim's bio filtration is superior to the fx5
but the fx5s mechanical filtration (no floaties ever) is 100x better than eheims. It has tons of foam and the water is always crystal clear. If i could fit an fx 5 in my cabinet I'd have that running right now instead of my 2078
my eheims don't do as good of a job getting my water crystal clear.

You should change the filter wool periodically, I have sparkling clear water with my Eheims.

I think, it's better a wet or sump. It's easier to clean & cheaper. Can put the heater/s in.
