I usually use a 20H for my breeder pairs. I guess if the Discus are not too big, 2 in a 20L would be ok...Bill

These days it seems you can but I definitely wouldn't. Its too cramped, even for a bare bottom breeding tank it requires strict cleaning/water changes. Just my opinion.

Sorry if this is obvious, but are they a breeding pair? If not, you may have one harassing the other one until it stresses and gets sick.

Agreed. I would expect problems to develop.

Bad idea. 20H for mated pairs only.

I agree.
My experience; When my fry got 2+ I divided them into different tanks. [30's and a 20] I put two in my twenty and everything seemed okay. But when they got 3-4+ there was so much agression I had to relocate them to a larger tank. It seems that once they get larger they become more territorial and they need more space. I have never had this problem with my larger tanks. It is mentioned that discus need 10 gallons per fish but I would go with a thirty or larger. I will use my 20 for a hospital tank or a breeding tank only from know on.

Just my two cents,
Wade

Yup.

My very first discus (way before I knew that Simply Discus existed) was one blue diamond and one lovely red pigeon blood in a 20 gal tall. Within 3 weeks, the red fish was dead.

And I thought discus were peaceful. I thought to myself for this much drama, I could have gotten bettas and they're so much cheaper.

I would never put just 2 discus in a tank unless they were a mated pair. It just doesn't work.

Sorry if I hijack the thread here, but is a 20gal big enough for a breeding pair or would a 40 be a little easier? IE:water change sched and swim space?

Discus shouldn't be kept in pairs unless they are breeders.

Bigger is always better. I like 29 gallon for breeders, but do use 20H. Taller tanks are also better for discus than longer, shorter ones, even if they hold more water.
