Plant question.

I have a 40 gallon breeder with an open top. It gets great indirect sun. I would like to plant something that will grow out of the tank or hang something on the tank which will hold the roots/base of a plant and let that grow. My question which plants will work for that and does anyone have any suggestions on how to suspend these plants in the tank.
