I've got a 90 gallon tank and my 400w Theo died on me. I bought a 300w Sera and its been in the tank for 3 days and it can't get me any higher than 81 degrees. I've got it set for 89 and it ain't happening. I'm thinking of buying a Visi-Therm or a Stealth Pro. Or I may go back to the Theo. I've read the posts about the Stealths. Does anyone have any preferences?

I have a visi-therm as a back up heater now because it was doing the same thing. I have it turned all the way up 89 and it wouldn't get my tank any higher then 83. I bought one of those titanium heaters and so far so good.

I don't have a local dealer that sells Jager's. Trilby Tropicals here used to but they haven't had them for a while; just Sera's. I need to find a good quality, reliable heater that I can buy asap. I could order one but I'd like to make my discus cozy sooner than later.

I agree with Eddie. Be sure to calibrate Jagers it for best performance. Real easy to do, and worth doing.

BiggDogg, think about using two 200 watt heaters instead. is one less worry .

Roberto.
By the way , Stealth Pros are the way !

I have been using Rena.
I also agree with using two 200 watt.
That is what is in my 100 and they have been working well.
I also have a Stealth in my 55 but so far I like the Rena heaters better.

Stealth's are the worst EVER!!! I have 8 dead/fried 6" WB to prove it. Water temp was well over 100degrees.

Is the heater cycling, with the pilot light going on and off?

If it is, take it back for another, because the factory calibration is off. Dunno that Sera's can be calibrated like Jagers...

If the heater isn't cycling, if the pilot light just stays on, then it doesn't have enough output to bring the tank to the desired temp. It's too small. You can add another heater or try to insulate the tank or get a higher output heater...

I have no experience with the Sera heaters, but Bob Garside swears by 'em, so I figure they're good...

Took the Sera back. Don't really have the money right now to buy a second heater (Sera's cost) so I bought another 400watt Theo. Tank is doing fine my first Theo lasted quite a while. Next time I need to replace it I'll run with a pair of 200watt. Thanks for everyone's input.
