View Full Version : when measuring your discus - how do you do it?

Ok,
i see measurements on this forum
but i have to get this clear.
when i measure arowanas, which is a fish i am very familiar with - we measure from end to end.
I mean literally tip to tip.
then we have a total length.
when measuring discus - is this the same?
from the tip of the tail to the tip of the lips?
i just want to know how you measure discus here:D

I've always understood that the standard measurement is from the mouth to the caudal peduncle. This doesn't include the tail.

I think most people measure total length - tip to tip.

The tail is part of the fish, why wouldn't you include it? At least thats my opinion.
I use to do it this way:

Then, logic kicked in(Hans lol:D) and I do it this way:
