DISEASE QUESTIONNAIRE


Problem

1. Please explain the problems with your fish/when and how they started

I noticed today that my maze has an open wound on its left fin as you can see in the pics below.

2. Symptoms (i.e. turning dark, excess slime, not eating, clamped fins, flashing, darting, clamped gills, white/yellow/green poop, hiding, headstanding or tailstanding, white on tips of fins, rotting or fungus, blisters/ white zits on fish, bloated, cloudy eyes, wounds)

3. What medications/ treatments that you have already tried and results. Include dosages and duration of treatment.

I have moved it into my 20g QT tank for right now but haven't done any treatments yet.


Tank/Water

4. Tank size and age, number and size of fish

Tank is 120G set up for approx 6 months. theres 9 other discus and some cherry shrimp. 2 of the discus is approx 5", 4 are 4", 3 are around 3"

5. Water change regime/ how long has tank been running/ bare bottom or gravel/ do you age your water?

usually 50% every other day, sometimes every third day. its a planted tank with white sand. pressurized co2, 2x eheim 2217, 1x eheim 2215. 18w UV sterilizer (not being used)

6 Parameters and water source;

- temp __84-85___

- ph __7.0-7.2___

- ammonia reading __0__

- nitrite reading __0__

- nitrate reading __>5__

- well water ____

- municipal water __x__

7. Any new fish/plants added recently

none.

Looks like a an ulcer of some sort, maybe start of a bacterial infection. I'd go with Furan-2 and salt.

thanks for the quick response. I have bifuran+ which contains nitrofurazone and furazolidone, sodium chloride, and synthetic polymers. Should i use this at the dosage they recommend which is 9.7g/10gal?? should I add additional salt?

edit: checked the MSDS sheet for furan-2 and it looks like the same ingredients.

Yes, thats fine, keep tank lights out and add additional salt at 1 tbsp per 10 gallons.

could this be caused from it being completely insane? it has recently decided it wants to be top of the pecking order and is fighting with my pigeon. I was able to get a video of it

Not sure about insanity but it definitely wants to be the leader. Thats minor fighting! I should probably start a new show Discus Ultimate Fighting Championship. Its no holds bard up in my tanks......beat downs. LOL

lol, that would be great if it was pre breeding but i think the maze is the only fish in the tank i wouldnt want to pair with that pigeon.
