View Full Version : Got selected for promotion!!!

Eddie

Just thought I'd share my enthusiasm!!! WOOHHHHOOOOO

I was notified that I am being promoted to the grade of E-7 which is a Master Sergeant in the US Air Force. Its the first step in the ranks of Senior Non-Commissioned Officers. There are only 2 more ranks to the top, which is an E-9 aka Chief Master Sergeant. I'm really really thrilled about it. I studied HARD to make it last year and missed it by 4 points. It was my first time eligible for it and this year was my second time. Took alot of studying and I'm happy that it all paid off!

Take care everyone!

That's great Eddie! Congrats! I see you have been doing other things than just keeping and raising discus lately! Good for you, you must be very proud of yourself. More stuff for the wife I predict, with your new larger income.

Thanks Ed and Barb!

Yup Barb, that jump from E-6 to E-7 is a BIG one, especially income wise. I won't see any of the income until I actually sew on the new stripe but I'm sure you know how it goes....they will already through me into a new position with the added responsibilities, just to "prepare" me for that increase in pay. LOL :o

CONGRATS EDDIE!!!!!

That calls for another beer in Texas! :D

Have you already calculated how many more tanks and/or fish you will be able to get with the additional income!??! :p If you are like most of us, the more you make - the more you spend!

See you soon!

Thanks Matt, my good friend is in the Marines and he's moving up super fast, I think he's been in 11 years and already an E-7. He deployed ALOT and has done so much that it just comes with his job. He doesn't like the point system because its pretty tough. The written tests are NO JOKE.

Thanks everyone!

Nope Joan, wont be moving back to the states. Still here in Japan until 2012. It may actually be easier for me to stay here until 2016 since I came here as a lower rank. Means I'll be able to fill a higher manning authorization.

Yeah Kev, wont be another promotion for a VERY long time. :o E-8 is stickler to get but some people can get it fast. I have plenty of time, only been in the US Air Force for 13 years so I have a bit of time to get another promotion.....or 2. :D

Take care all!

Great work Eddie! I haven't spent a bunch of time on the forum lately so I am a little late with my post. Sorry about that. Anyway, great work!

I never saw E-7. I left the Navy as an E-6 at 7 years. I had enough and wanted more money. LOL! I was one of the lucky ones to land a job that my service years all count towards retirement plus I was able to triple my income. :D Those days are gone. Ah the good old days!

Today it's either stay in and work your way up or get out and go back to school. The GI bill is much better today than when I got out though! They pretty much pay you to go to school. If you don't finish your degree while you're in, you have a lot of money waiting for you when you get out! :D

Anyway, have a great holiday weekend!

Best wishes!

Thanks man, my sister did the same. She did 7 years in the Navy and then got out to become a chef. LOL The new GI bill is actually even better because you can us the money to put your family members through college. Obviously it isn't some unreal amount, but its enough. Being active duty we get 100% tuition for school so now that I've got E-7 in the bag, I can concentrate on college. ;)

Eddie,

Congrats on the promotion! That's a great accomplishment. I know it was for me! Your responsibilities change and you truly get to influence the lives of more airmen and newly promoted junior NCO's.

Don't stop at E-7!!

I can tell you E-8 is even more sweet as I've had my stripes on for 2 years now.

Once again, welcome to the TOP 3 !!

Thanks Jack! Really excited about being in the Top-3!!! I am definitely not going to stop at E-7. I have plenty of time left in the Air Force and now its time to concentrate on my CCAF and Course 14. Once I get those taken care of, the rest will follow.

Take care,

Well Congrats Eddie ..... E-7 is a milestone for sure!! Especially for retirement (As I'm sure you know) I know I have not been posting here for very long, but have appreciated your help with sick fish. If you put half the effort into your Air Force career as you do your fish, you will make E-9 before retirement .... without a doubt.

I spent 18 years working full time for the National Guard here in California. Worked for a Mobilization and training facility as the Armament Shop Supervisor before I was kicked out on a medical disability two years ago. Military can be a great job if you make the most of it. Looks as if you are doing that, keep the promotions coming!

Lots of sewing ........... but pays!! HA ... Enjoy the new stripe!!

Congratulations Eddie , I know exactly what you mean I'm myself an E-6 (first class Petty Officer)in the Navy fifteen years veteran and for us an E-7 is call a Chief Petty Officer is a tremendous change from the color of uniform to a lot of perks but mostly is the biggest brother hood of the world.
By the way my son just become a senior cadet at guess what Air Force Academy so next year I will saluting him.:D
but enough about me. I don't want still your thunder. just want you to know
I understand what it means to you. what I'm sure is deserve promotion.

LOL, not yet Francis. I have to wait almost 8 months before I sew it on since I kind of made it sooner than the majority. :o The bad part is that I was moved into a higher job position and I won't get the pay raise until I sew it on. Guess those are the breaks......we don't get none. LOL

Eddie
04-16-2011, 12:15 AM
Man, its taken entire year to finally sew on the rank that I earned almost an entire year ago! May 1st should be my sew on date but I won't know for another week or so. It sucks since I immediately was moved into an E-7 Master Sergeant position when I was informed of my selection. I wish they did it like the Navy, let everybody sew on their rank and just not get the increased pay until there line (selection) number is up. So if all goes well, 14 days! WOOHOO!!!! great job eddie. i tested for e-7 10 times in the navy (i think). but the test is just to get to the selection board, which was always my failing point. Good for you. and by the way, whenever you talk with navy folk on the phone and they say they are a "chief", realize its only an e-7, not an e-9. they like to take advantage of you guys with that.

LOL, thanks Ian. I'll remember the Chief thing next time I talk to some Navy Chiefs. ;)

Funny story - sorry to hijack: as a US Army Captain, I was on leave visiting my parents in Annapolis MD. I had lost one of my dog tags and needed them to travel so I called the Naval Academy just down the road, identified myself as Captain Albina, and asked them if they could make dog tags on Campus. They said they yes Sir they certainly could and it would be no problem and they would take care of me as soon as I walked in the door and to stop by at my convenience. I was amazed at how nice and responsive they were - thinking, Wow the Navy support agencies are so much better than the Army! When I walked in - in uniform, and they saw that I was a lowly Army Captain (O3) and not a Navy Captain (O6) - they told me to take a seat and they'd be with me as soon as they could. An hour and a half later - I had my dog tags. Sometimes you might not want tell the Navy Chiefs that you're not a Navy Chief... just saying....

LOL, that is a funny story indeed. It doesnt even matter these days though. Technology has surpassed the means of military personnel, it takes 2 hours to get anything done these days. Things that took 10-15 minutes, now take entire days, its pitiful. You would think it was the other way around but its far from it.
