Official NADA Show Picture Thread

I wanted to start a thread for all the pics from the show. We rented a 26' U-Haul this afternoon, went to the storage and loaded up the tanks and racks.

And for the record - while the easy money may have been on me to break the first tank, it was actually John that broke the first one. LOL

That's it for today, Jerry gets in this evening and we start first thing in the morning at 8am setting everything up.

Saran Wrap and tape is available to all participants and the tanks are only filled 3/4. So far so good!

It would be awesome to attend something this event. We had the American Killifish Association event here in Portland last year. There are too many killi fanatics up here and not enough discus people.

We have about 15-20 from local people and/or Forum and NADA. Mike Beals (CODISCUS) has some really nice fish in the show, Kingdom Come Discus has some nice fish in the show, and Hans rounds out the mix.

Hi all,
Taking a few minutes out here to catch up and comment on this show. These Guys down here have really did a great job setting this up... and theres some fish entered here that are just really stunning..wish I have them home.:)

and the people.... what can I say but truly priceless! Many new faces for me to old names....I've been having an awesome time talking with everyone and getting to know them better....I am really glad I took the time to come down here for this... Its been a long time in the coming.

Geez this looks awesome! These fish look better than a lot of the international shows. Way to go on the whole show it looks to be phenomenal and you guys look like you have done this before. Cant wait for the catalog of pictures.

That is a Blue Knight that Wayne sent me...By far the tallest Blue Knight that I have seen so far. The fish I raised were not this tall.

Darrell, The fish is not showing well in that photo but I would agree with you I do not like that high of a body shape for a BK. The ones I rasied are not that tall

I've got tons of pictures to add but I'll be putting them on later. At the airport in Dallas now, waiting for my return flight to Cali. Man, the show was amazing! I am very proud to be able to say that I attended the very first ever NADA show. The first ever, Discus only show in the US. Meeting all the great people and seeing some amazing fish, was amazing. I will be attending the next show without a doubt. It will not be one to miss for those who did not make it to the first show.

Here're some of the pictures I've taken on Saturday, few hours before the judging. IMO, many of the fishes did not show their best today compare to when Eddie taken their pictures (probably due to ammonia/nitrite build up in the tank). The fishes were much better in person, and pictures did not do them justice.

I've a great time at the convention. wish everyone who traveled here have a safe trip home.

Fine Line Class - 3rd place Discus Hans, 2nd and 1st place Mike Beals

Thick Line Class - 1st, 2nd, 3rd place all go to Mike Beals.

Blue Knight, this fish is incredibly high-bodied, but it does not appear to be a bulldog type fish. You can really see the trademark Wayne Ng slanted forehead that gives it that height:

I truly appreciated all that have added to this thread as I have lived vicariously through your postings. I would have never believed that NADA could have pulled off a "National Show" but You have and have done a excellent job for your maiden voyage. I appreciate all that Jerry "Yogi" has done with NADA under his tutelage, and know that this first show would not have been possible without the help of Texan John Nicholson. The first brick has been layed for a strong foundation, the one time dream has come true.

The fish in post 84, 3rd from the top, is just killer. I've always liked that type, with the deep, dark, rich brown/red base and green metalic markings. There is a similar one in Jack Wattleys Handbook of Discus that has pearl markings. What is that type called?

My wife and I had a great time. I learned alot from all the great speakers. I, as I am sure alot of you that attened, spent alot of time looking at all the nice discus. Never been any where before with some many discus. Of course I have not been to Hans, Johns, Dans, Mikes or others fish house. lol Really enjoyed meeting everyone! Great group of people!! There was alot of nice discus for sale at the show. Had a very hard time deciding which one to buy. I purchased a beutiful Orgon discus from Mike. [Central Ohio Discus.] Won 3rd place in open class. My PC at home decided to lose the video card over the weekend so I am posting from work. I will keep it short but I just wanted to say THANKS to everyone that supported the show. It was more successful then I could have ever hoped for. I will either get my PC fixed or breakdown and use my daughters notebook as soon as I recover from the show....LOL.

Hey Al, I thought you would press for it to be held in CT! :) I know the Northeast Council of aquarium society holds it's annual meeting in Hartford area every year, so we do have the infrastructure to support the NADA show.

Thanks everyone for the beautiful pictures of fish. Getting to see the members was an added advantage.

Well, I for one won't mind going to San Diego, been there twice before and absolutely loved it. Balboa park is awesome, but the picture of the hotel blows me away! Didn't stay there though, I am sure it costs a fortune!:)

I love the Northeast Council of Aquarium Societies (NEC) affairs. They really do a nice show and treat visiting clubs like family. I'm so sorry to have missed Texas, but I'm delighted it went so well for y'all. Shoot. I could practically walk to the NEC (if I started very early.)

Hope to make it next year. And if heading to the West Coast, my vote is for heading to Paso Robles Ca. It is exactly in the middle of the state (exact mileage from SF and LA) Easy to book a venue at the Mid State Fairground now called Paso Robles Event Center. Over 300 wineries in the area for Wine Tasting, Amazing beaches only 25 min away, Hearst Castle, some of the best weather in the entire country. Not a city ..but very central to the west coast.

Once again ..great fish and congrats to the winners.

Hi Guys, Hi Jerry and hi Hans,

I just browed through you pictures and comments on this great event you all had.
I just finished writing up the very first championship in the USA, which I helped in 1992 to coordinate, judge and lecture in NYC, it was great, we had 100 entries and great judges.
So, if I see correctly this is the second one of such a competition in the US, congratulations to all of you. Surely you have done a great jub, and also Hans, I am sure.
And Hans you should say "Thank you Heiko" that I got Hudson on to you, Hudson is the very best you can have, 100% correct person and you will do good with him. Hudson is one of these serious guys who believes what I tell him and follows my experiance. And you will get some of the fish I discovered and Hudson is the only one who went back to the correct place and got them. For the first time in history the famous Green Discus from the Coari region will be as wilds in the US. You know that most (if not all) of todays Red Spotted Green discus come from those I colelced in the Coari region. I gave the best to Schmidt-Focke and he bred them very selective in the early 1980s and they conquered the Discus-world in the late 1980s - until today... But this is all history and you will have the first after nearly 30 years... Congratulations and to those who will have these unique beauties.

Well again, congratulations to NADA and the great helpers, you done a great job and I hope on the next one (in San Diego?) I am able to join. In the meanwhile I see forward to judge with Jerry in napels in September, and maybe I see some of you guys in lovely Italy, to Italy's greatest event of the aquarium hobby and the largest Discus Championships with over 200 tanks/discus to be judged from all over the world, have a look:

Thank you Jim for posting all those high resolution photos of all of the discus entered into the show on the NADA website. There were some spectacular fish there and looking though those photos I'm reminded of how nice they were.

A special thank you to Hans for all you did for the show to make it a success. Like the others have said, you are true discus professional and a most generous man.
