Can anyone suggest a reliable on-line source for plants (swords and anubias mostly) for a 100 gallon discus/angel tank? Would prefer a Simly Sponsor if there is one out there. The LFS is definitely out of the question. Thanks for your help.

I can recommend http://www.aquariumplants.com

What you will like is that they have a special section especially for Discus keepers. They delivered when they said they would, they answer their phones, and their plants are very healthy.

I have to second the www.aquariumplants.com (http://www.aquariumplants.com) recommendation. The plants I received were HUGE, gorgeous, and healthy.

The link I posted is a wholesaler that grows their own plants.

When you get them directly from the grower the plants are generally on much better shape from my experience.

Yep what they said. I have been ordering plants from Aquariumplants for at least 6 years now. Always happy with what I get.

I like aquariumplants.com...except for the leeches that hitchhiked on the dwarf sag I got from them.

Otherwise, I'd buy plants from people on the plantedtank.net forums. Typically good quality, good portions, and better price...especially on shipping. Just watch out for the few scammer types.

Well, I'm one that CAN NOT recommend Aquarium Plants.

About 40% of what I bought from them was garbage. This was in the last month. Yes, they have offered to reship them, but at my expense. Some of what I was sent should not have left the warehouse, except in a trash can. Allegedly, I was told that the employee that picked my order was let go - but that doesn't help me out much, and based upon what I received, I'm not all that anxious to even use the credit I have with them.

Care to elaborate? Why were they garbage?

Care to elaborate? Why were they garbage?

I ordered 50 Vals, they were brown with obviously dying, mushy leaves. These are still sitting on my deck - no way I was going to put that rotting bioload in the tank.

I ordered a Java Fern mat - the leaves were mostly black.

I ordered 7 Wendtii, the leaves were brown and falling off the plants.

I ordered 5 Balansae, the leaves were brown and dying.

Of the total order value, this was approximately half of the order. Chad told me that he believed that the person responsible for filling my order had been let go. Sorry, but if the order was that poorly pulled and packaged that an employee was terminated, you should be replacing it, including the shipping.

I emailed them photos of the plants when they arrived, along with what was bad. While Chad did tell me over the phone that they would replace them (if I paid for the shipping), I have had NO response to my email to them. This was a couple of weeks ago.

So, no. I can't recommend them.

Hi I have been doing planted tanks for years. I have bought from all of the co. named so far, some good and some bad. The best peron I have ever used is on Aqua bid and her name is Chambers. Time afer time I get great plants. HTH Ed

Sounds like a legit beef to me. I like how you sent him the pictures as well.

If I had been Chad, I would rethink how I inspect plants prior to shipment for sure, but I would have shipped you a replacment at my cost and I would have hand selected the replacements. I would have lost money on your order, but in the long run I would have avoided (hopefully) any kind of negative experience stories like this one when someone is asking for a reference.

I had a similar experience with an aquatics supplier in Georgia (won't mention names) but I read many good things about him on web sites, and when it came time to place my order, he didn't answer phones, back ordered supplies but charged my card, overall just a horrific experience.

a few years ago when I had a planted tank I bought mostly from Aquariumplants.com and wass pleased. a few weeks ago I ordered frogbit from them for my biotope. they sent me plants I have never seen before, but they were about 12" stems with one large leaf. called them and they said they would ship the right plants. the next week I recieved the pkg. guess what? the same plants. called and the guy said his supplier told him this was frogbit but grown emmersed. can't believe someone in the business would believe that a floating plant can have 12" stems and another 5" roots. how do you grow a floating plant emmersed? won't be ordeding from them again.

Can not recommend aquariumplants.com if they leave something out you ordered it hard to get them to replace it.
