Your fish room/apartment is great! What I can't believe is that the landlord hasn't said anything about all that water.

I'll go out on the short limb here and guess you aren't on the 2nd floor! LOL

Thanks,
-jim

Heh... Well the matenence guys like me, and haven't said a word. (I have been in the apartment complex for 4+ years now.) I used to live on the 3rd floor. Then I bought a 250, and the dog ran by causing the floor to shake... moved the next week to the foundation.

(I also have a lot of insurance in case of water damages.)

But yeah the apartment only knows officially that I have a "big" fish tank... and what "big" means is anyone's guess...

Great video Kevin. Thanks. I made one of mine after seeing yours. I spent all the time uploading it to youtube only to find out while it was processing that they have a 10 minute max. Lol, mine was a little over 13 minutes. guess I will have to do it over, move a little faster and talk a little less. I will try to get something posted tomorrow night. Too late tonight.

Larry looks good. Those are amazingly clean tanks.

How often have you been swapping your Discus pairs around from tank to tank? Or do you just keep 4 together in a tank like that and divide them when they start laying eggs?

I had a couple of the 55's open (they are really for grow out). The adults get moved around some but not really that much. The Stendker Tefe's were really ready to get away from the fry. Instead of moving the fry to a new tank, I had the big tank open and put them all in there. The 4 wilds were from Roger and I wanted to keep them separate from the others wilds for a little while.

Too much light in the room to get a really good video. There is a lot of glare and reflection. I need to find a way to sheild some of the light between the shop lights and the top of the tank to get a really good video.

Thanks guys. It is indeed a addiction lol. People say it must be a lot of work but really it is my time to wind down and get away from stress. Water changes are good for the soul.

WOW Larry, that is some fish room!! All those beautiful fish in all those clean tanks, all those plants, I am speechless. Now I see why you wanted so many of my breeding cones:D! You must spend hours in there each day, and love every minute. I particularly love those black angels, just fantastic! I didn't even notice any glare, just admiring the tanks of fish! Now when someone tells me I have too many tanks, 3, I will remember your fish room.

Impressive fish room you have there Larry. Some great wild specimens in your collection that I especially like. Also love all of the plants. BTW how many total gallons in your fishroom? Looks like you did an expert job utilizing the space. Plenty of room to work and yet still many many tanks to play with:)

Appreciate the compliments.
Well you made me stop and add it up. The last time I had checked I had around 1300 gallons in the house but I have since taken down some tanks and added a couple of others. I have 1175 gallons in the fish room and another 120 gallons upstairs.

Not so sure about expert job. Wish it had been planned out but it really boiled down to finding tanks on Craigs list and then fitting them in. Not the best way to do it but it works for now.

Thanks Barb!

I really don't spend that much time working at it daily. The planted tanks require no daily attention. Plants do a wonderful job of helping with filtration. I rarely do a w/c on a planted tank. Simple top it off and then occasionally trim plants and clean the tank a little. The discus tanks get the bottoms cleaned each day but that is pretty quick. The adult tanks get water changes every few days and the juvies and fry get changes daily. I use a phyton to clean the bottoms so I just go from tank to tank, really pretty quick. I use a pump to empty tanks that are getting a w/c. I have four 44 gallon brute trashcans for water storage and two pumps that are used to refill tanks. I can be pumping out a tank, using the python to clean the bottoms and have pumps refilling two tanks at a time. Multitasking..............thank goodness for concrete floors cause I hear splashing quite often, lol.

Looking good Chris. So are you in essence doublying your tank space this summer?

And is there any reason why you put the bio balls ontop of the spong? I would assume you would want to clean the sponges more then the bio balls. Though it looks like you have little sponges on each drain so it likely doesn't matter as much.

Not this time. My wife has a Nikon coolpix (about $100) that she uses for school and other stuff. I have found that todays point and shoots usually take pretty good videos. I have a Nikon DSLR but it doesn't take videos.

I have taken some pretty good videos with the EVO though.

Im going to build a stand this weekend to stack some 55s, and over the summer Ill be adding at least 6-8 20g tanks to a new rack, I dunno.

Well, originally there were only bioballs in the back chambers, but the sump wasnt made to be a sump originally (lol) and they were falling through. I shoved the sponge up into the boxes so I wouldnt have to pull out the bioballs. Lazy, I know, and I will redo it eventually. The pre-drain sponges do a great job of keeping the bioballs though, so I dunno.

Thanks, I got them at our local large auction ~5 months back now. Xenentodon cancila (Needle Nose Gar) I have just finally gotten 2 of the 3 onto bloodworms. Soon they should be going into the 75, but so far besides the failure of having frozen brine shrimp work for them things have been going well. (Well hopefully I can get the 3rd to eat bloodworms, though that is an uphill battle.)

Haven't bought plants in quite a while now. Trimmings from one tank to another. When I do buy, we have a local aquarium club that has a strong group of aquatic gardeners and we have auctions at each of our monthly meetings so there are always plants available.

O.K Not in the same league as you folks. Pretty small potatoes hobbyist. Unlike Kevin, my wife won't let me take over the whole house. No room for a dedicated fish-room. Sure wish I was able to build one. Three tanks (one still being cycled). Here's some shots of two of them. Sorry for the blur in some pics, the large second hand tank was used with salt for a number of years and the glass is a bit foggy.

Yes it is. I have to set there as the lights go out in the evening in order to see some of the other inhabitants besides the discus.

They spawned twice in the big tank, but ate the eggs immediately. So I got the 29 gal. ready and moved them. Since then they have spawned four times, three on Barb's cone and once on a sword leaf. Ate the eggs three times so I made a screen. Then they spawned on the plant and foiled me. No fry yet, but I'm still hoping.:D
