thanks everyone. db2inst1, that is brazilian pennyworth. it can be grown like stem plants or floated. there are some mini water lettuce but they are still small.

thanks everyone for the kind words. going to take the cypress out and replace it with a manzanita stump as soon as it's finished soaking.

Hi 3dees,
Great choice and combination of branches and wild discus.
I would like to combine greens with RSG's also. I have
browsed for a lot of wild tanks, and yours is really nice.
Question: How do you get the pennywort to grow as
floaters? Have you had them long? And how high is
your light? How about ferts?
Thanks,
Jeff

thanks wannafish, I just put the pennyworth in. the stems will start to change after a few weeks. hard to explain but they grow long and stringy. it's been in the tank for about three months and I have already thinned them out. I have a greenlight from Catalina lights. I run the led's (two rows of 72 bulbs ) for 12 hours but I don't think they are enough so I run one 54watt t8 for 6 hours. lights about 6" above the water. I do have an open top. I added some mimi water lettuce and frogbit and would eventually like to remove the pennyworth because it gets twisted on the wood with every wc.

sorry wannafish, not enough coffee yet. I dose two caps of flourish twice a week after my large wc. these plants really suck up the nutrients. almost no nitrates and no algae.
All the missiles are ready to launch.

hey teh, I guess you mean the open top? yeah, I know I'm taking a chance but I have run open tops for years. a top won't work on this tank as there are branches sticking out and the floating plants need room. I think the floating plants help keep the fish from jumping. I would love a small school of hatchett's for the upper layer but seeing that those fish fly I think I would be pushing it,lol.
just too good. very nice selection & collection of logs, plants and wild discus. Awesome.

Looks amazing! Just watch out for all those pointed branches of driftwood. They're a magnet for startled discus that dart at them. I had a setup like that that I gave up on because the fish were getting so scraped up.
