Thinking about getting a 95 gallon cube (approx.) 28"x28"x32" tall. For filtration I'd like to go with two canisters, right now I'm considering dual Rena XP3's. I like the dual setup for redundancy and reduced workloads for both filters. Does my setup raise any concerns with you guys as far as flow rate? Since the exposed area is relatively small, I was worried about the amount of flow going around the tank, don't want the discus burning off too many calories!

Alternatively, I could just turn down the flow on each... Does anyone know if this an available feature on the XP3?

Thanks

I have jimmied these(aquaclear quick filters no innards though, just the black cage) to go over output for my fx5 , no reduced flow rate but reduced turbulence, just a diffused output.

In addition.. thesehttp://aquashop88.com/images/XY%20-%20Bio%20Sponge%20Filter%20(Double%20Tube)%202.jpg (if you remove clear parts) fit perfectly over xp inputs so you can make sure the filter never get full of gunk, excellent prefilters in my experience.

And if you remove the sponges they can also diffuse the outflow too if so desired:)

I think it is important to diffuse the outputs based on the tank you are describing....

Wow that's pretty cool, do you have a link to that double sponge filter? And what about O2 diffusion, I thought the spray bar's flow through the air (as it hits the water) was the main source of oxygen generation for canister filter setups?

Thats a listing that appears identical My friend buys supplies from China and lets me get in on his orders I have the biggest sponge filters ever!! they look like black buckets:) new thing Im tryingout for my 250. I have the Quick filter part in and part above water so I have lots of agitation... My understanding is breaking of surface tension is what exchanges oxygen back into water.... Experts please clarify...

Agitation does increase oxygen levels but just as importantly it greatly decreases carbon dioxide levels. It also allows for more large organic substances (shinny film some see on the waters surface) to dissolve in the water and be be picked up by filtration.

I am getting a very similar tank, 30x30x24" high. I plan to filter it with a single Eheim 2078. It'll be plumbed in through 2 drilled holes in the back and the outlet and intake will set up a circular flow pattern. I also plan to enhance that flow with a hidden Maxijet. I think 2XP3 are overkill for flow in that tank. One with a powerhead would be more efficient, but if you want 2, why not go with 2 XP2's? It'll be a lot cheaper too.
