Hello everyone,

Here are some photos of my planted tank and the beautiful discus from Kenny.

The plants went wild and in 8 weeks everything doubled in size and I have already had to prune the swords and the water lillies.

Also, see the photo of the wonderful root system using Eco-Complete. This stuff works!!!

Yeah, Eco-complete is great for plants. What kind of discus are the dark ones? They are trying to blend in with the black substrate so it's hard to tell.

The dark ones are suppose to be High Carnation Turks, but I can not see any blue what so ever in them. They are very healthy, but not showing any signs of quality coloration.

I’m sure the fish have lots of blue, but you’ll never see it over the Eco-Complete. Even a black background will turn the fish dark. Do a search for eco-complete and read some threads. You’ll see what I mean.

would the red eco complete stop this problem?

I really doubt it. It's still pretty dark. I tried discus and eco-complete and my non-albino discus never looked right. Albinos go well with eco-complete.

If you cap it with sand, the sand will trickle down through the EC and leave the larger substrate on top.

Tank looks great jeff. I never had a problem with my eco, i just didnt like it. Main reason i had soft water and it took me about a year to get my water param to stabalize. Now that we moved a couple years ago to harder water not an issue. I am acctually re scapeing it today and tomorrow as well as moving my 55 planted tank.

Great looking tank!!

I capped my eco complete with pea sized or smaller aquarium gravel. I also have some cory cats and otinculus in the tank to help eat the food discus don't. I find my discus will hunt the gravel for the blackworms (I put six ounces of live black worms in the tank every couple weeks). I can stir the gravel and get a mess of live worms that the discus and angels go crazy for. Tank is planted with Argentine Sword, Amazon Sword, Melon Sword and a Manzanita stump that has Anubias Barteri, sagitaria, Broad Leaf Ludwigia, and Cardinal plant.

I don't use CO2, but do use Flourish Excell. Lighting is a dual tube T5 fixture 48 inches long made by Zoo-Med with a 10000k full spectrum bulb and a 420 Actinic bulb. The Tank also gets lots of the natural ambient daylight.

I also have three filters on the tank (75 gallon tank, fluval 406, Marineland 350 deluxe [will evenutally replace with Fluval], Marineland Emporer 280 HOB filter.
