Hi all,

Just got back from an unbelievably awesome family vacation weekend at a 5 star resort hotel and restaurant. Now I know times are hard out there and that financially every one is shambles.. but you know every once in a while you have to splurge...

Now before I post the trip pics please don't think that things are so good here as owner of Simplydiscus.com that I no longer need your contributions to SimplyDiscus (http://www.forum.simplydiscus.com/billspaypal.php?) any longer... because thats not the case at all!:) I just wanted to share some family time photos with my friends here.

So anyways we packed up Friday and drove to a 5 star resort on Billingslake in CT... The brochure showed us this picture as a promo of what our room overlooked....

We were really looking forward to the trip but I have to admit ...the marketing brochure was a little misleading.

Heres where we stayed...

Not quite 5 stars but we made the best of it...

When I made our reservations I paid extra for a full course Gourmet Dinner for us and my in-laws..... I admit I was a bit surprised by how interpretations of "gourmet" can vary...

I think the biggest let down of the trip was we were supposed to have a newly remodeled Bathroom....The facility manager told me it was recently upgraded and was not only beautiful but eco-friendly.

I'll give them the eco-friendly part maybe...:confused::confused::confused:

In retrospect, I guess its true that you really only get what you paid for..if that....maybe next year we'll save a bit more before we go on our trip and see if we can get some better luxury accommodations?;):D:D:D

Man!!!! My wife (being city addict) would have killed me to say the least. On the bright side, you did get privacy ( didn't have to share space or the view) during your stay from the looks of it!!!!!

Must of been quite the adventure, looks kind of rustic out there in the wild. Hope everyone had a good time and no misadventures happened while you were away from your cushie digs at home. Thanks for the pics Brewman glad your home and all are safe, never know what can happen out there in the WOODS....................Jim

Al,

If I took a picture of my wife coming out of an outhouse, I'd NEVER hear the end of it! :argue: We've stayed in some rustic places before, but yours takes the cake!:p Thanks for sharing!

Lol...I guess I am better story teller than I thought!:)

Okay, The real story here behind the pics...

This piece of property we were staying at belongs to my father-inlaw. Its on a lake....Billings lake in CT. We've been camping here for decades... No one sleeps in that trailer.. If you saw how decrepit it was you'd rather sleep outside ina hurricane!:) We just use it for storage.. someday soon it will need to be torn down, and possibly replaced with a new trailer or a cottage. We sleep in Tents when there.

The overlook is spectacular there..This lake is by far one of the least developed lakes in CT....the bass fishing there is really good and the swimming is excellent.

The "playground" the kids are on, thats one of several camping platforms that are built on the property.. Twice a year in the summer we have what started out as "father daughter" camping...thats morphed into "father-daughter-grandkids-son inlaws and friends camping" a kind of group camp out. The dining hall pic...thats seats about 25 campers comfortably and is usually covered with tarps to prevent rain outs.

We spend Many summer weekend camping here and have for many years...so if its a summer weekend and you don't see me online....Thats where I am with my family.:D

The fireplace, lobster and cook pot....thats authentic and a tradition we have at the end of the camping year.

The outhouse...well the one we use isn't quite as rustic...Its rented for the summer and is routinely maintained pot-o-potty. This one pictured is from about 50 years ago when it was the bathroom to people that used to own the trailer and property... Now its just a bit of unique nostalgia for the place....its actually a very sought out piece of photo graphic scenery... ;):bandana: and as for the shot of my wife stepping out of it...shes a good sport and a fairly good actress...it was staged.:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I've been meaning to take a photo set like these and creatively narrate them a while... hope you enjoyed it.:):):):)

Al, it's trips like that that your family will remember for years to come. When I was young my family had a rather rustic fixer upper type cabin in the rain forest. When we get together all these many years later we have a good laugh at the memories.

That's great stuff!!:D Seriously, the opportunity to spend quality time with family in any environment is extremely undervalued!

Al, I had missed this thread earlier. So, I see the title and think to myself, "Wow, I've NEVER stayed at a five star resort". I was LMAO when I saw the pics, and read your hilarious captions. Classic! What a great family vacation, and ones your kids will always remember & treasure. High Five to your wife!

Well, I have to say, we really did enjoy the place alot....so much so that we just got back from a week camping there again. Fishing was great..kids caught a few nice size bass, had some great campfires, and best of all....some really great memories....My only complaint is the owners really need to do some updating.....I'm thinking at least paint the place. :) well who knows maybe someday they'll just knock it down and built a fancy cottage there...part of me says that would be great...but then again....it would lose its nostalgic atmosphere. :)

Ok Al, you had me going even though the "updated" outhouse was suspect especially with the trash stashed in there :) Your wife's body language in the picture where she is leaving the outhouse is one of total "get me out of here". You do get some great mileage out of the pictures. Looks to be a wonderful time with the family.

I fondly remember camping trip when I was a kid. Had a blast. Tom and I did not camp so much with our daughter but did go to the keys alot for lobstering and fishing. Lots of stories there. :) Pat
