I have an established tank and have tried HC a couple times, but don't seem to be having much luck. It seems that the discus are either nipping at the HC (uprooting it) or simply eating it.
Anybody here have a nice carpet of HC in their discus tank?

I've tried HC a couple of times but never had much luck growing it or keeping it attached to the substrate as you mentioned.
Just use regular baby tears and keep it trimmed short. I have a nice carpet of it and it's much easier to grow than HC. I just give it 2 watts/gal of light and CO2 injection. It grows so fast I have to "mow" it weekly.
Here is a couple of shots of regular baby tears trimmed short to form a carpet in the foreground.

HC only seems to grow well when its under halides. Atleast thats the only time I've had luck with it. When you give it lots of light + co2+ ferts= weed.
