I am working on the plumbing right now w/ a buddy. Vinyl back ground is on (blue).

ZX10R - I really wanted a Ray but decided to not add 1. Maybe in the future but want a non-aggressive tank - not worry about the ray eating my Tetras.

I am also probably going to add some Rams - probably German Blue but still debating that.

I will try 2 add some pic w/ updates later 2nite.

I don't blame you I am getting kind of tired of mine. You can't put much of anything in the tank without the ray eating it. So it limits your choice of fish in the tank.

Ok - still no water but all plumbing is done (UV & Fluval FX5). Used my own PVC stuff think it turned out pretty good. I'm happy w/ it. I am going to have to "notch" the stand to get the FX5 to slide out easier.

But here's some more pics.

It should take about 7 days to cycle but I plan on using Seachem Stability. I also have another freshwater tank setup. It has bio wheels on it. I plan to hook that up & hopefully cycle a little faster.

Cycling - you'll get a lot of different opinions on this. I have always done it. I have never had "New Tank Syndrome". So, you decide.

Today, I placed my Emerald Green Cories in from my other tank - So far so good - We'll have 2 see what happens.

I will hopefully post more pics tomorrow or Thurs

Ok - Some new pics. The tank still has a good amount of cloudiness. Not sure why. All my test are coming back almost Perfect (Nitrate 5.0 ppm - API test) But that's because of the "Bio Load" now.

13 - Rummy Nose Tetras
13 - Cardinal Tetras
5 - Green Hump Corys (Emerald Green)
1 - Brilliant Turquoise (Hans Discus) - more coming VERY soon

12ish Plants - (2) Anubius (4) Swords (2) Crypts (2) Lily (1) ??? - can't remember

Been a week - thinking of 20% water change today

I can't remember the name of the "redish" - I looked @ a some many different plants & this will be my 1st planted tank. But they were either Red Rubin or Red Flame (Echinodorus). Still learning w/ live plants. There are 2 of the "red swords" & 2 of the amazon swords

OK - I am sorry I've been slacking on posting some new pics. Been working 6 days a week & 10 hr shifts. So u kinda see why I haven't been posted. Well I lost 1 plant in the last month & lost my original Discus - I am NOT really sure why. Tested all my water & everything came back perfect. I added 8 Han Discus (about a month now w/ no issues) - 2 Flachen, 2 Silver Pig, 1 Blue Pig, 1 Red Pig, 1 Fire Red, & 1 Cobalt. I was thinking of adding @ least 2 more maybe 4. But I am undecided & holidays $$$'s a little tight. I still debating it. So here are some updated pics.

The wind finally stop blowing early afternoon. It was still raining this morning but the hard stuff was early this morning. It was coming done BAD. Yes, I really like the 120 gallon. Was a little unsure @ 1st. But no regrets. I trying 2 remember time frame. Going 2 say about 9 months maybe 10. My Rummy's stay @ the bottom all together. The Neon's stay towards the top but not always together. It's a little weird but everybody seems happy. Thanks 4 the thumbs up.

glad its going well. my tank has only been up for about 2.5 months and im starting to see things come together after my initial mistakes with too much light, diy co2 and ferts... :( now i have less light, no co2 and no ferts and algae is going away and tank looks great. looking forward to update pics. nice job. its one of my favorite sizes. i almost got a used one that was labeled leaker for cheap but got scared and got a used 75 non- leaker. lol. walt.

Well, everything seems ok now. But I did have a mishap - lost 3 Discus last week. "Discus Plague" - not sure what happened. I haven't changed anything, no new plants, fish, etc. Really really weird. The last time I had a crash I ordered Dr. Discus Blackening Panacea (http://www.mrdiscus.com/id70.html). I used it this time & a day later all discus had their color back & started eating again. Will be looking to get some new plants & a few more discus soon but will probably wait till after the holidays. Will post new pics than.

I use all the Seachem Plant products minus "Plant Trace" (I don't remember what they call it). I use Seachem Discus Trace instead. I mix RO & Tap Water so just want 2 make sure I give what all the fish & all the plants need. I do about 25 gallon water change once a week & than every 3 maybe 4 weeks - I do a 30 gallon water change & clean the filter, trim up the plants & all that good stuff.

As 4 the lights I'm pretty sure they r 54 watt bulbs

Yellowing/ browning in center of leaves & "rotting holes" - Not sure the issue. I did add 3 Clown Loaches (very small & were added after the plant issue)- my snail population was taking over.

Someone suggested iron issues w/ my plants. I ordered a Seachem Iron Test Kit. Should be here tomorrow but we'll see. I haven't done anything different. The plant issue just started. The tank has been setup for 2 years (give or take) w/ no plant issues till now. Not sure @ all. It really sucks. But I'd rather have plants die off rather than fish - Is that bad?

Are you dosing anything as far as fertilizer goes? You might want to think about getting a hold of some Macro/Micro nutrient supplements.

I am dosing Seachem products. 5 or 6 of them. I can't remember exact names. But its everything but their "Trace" for plants. I use Discus Trace instead.

The actnic wont do anything for your plants. A guy at my lfs actually told me the actnic would do more harm to plants than good. Idk if thats true but I know the color range cant be used by plants for the actnic or the 10k.

There is different opinions 4 this but from what I have read actinic is good for "red" colored plants. That is y I use it. They r not being infected w/ any issues. I have had actinic bulb in the tank since its been set up. So I don't think thats the issue.

anyone else like to chime in?

Your swords are getting rasped by bristlenose. I had to remove a goldnugget because it was damaging my swords in the same way and I've had a bristlenose do the same thing. They do this mostly at night when the lights are off, so even if you don't see them on the plants during the day, they are the source of the problem. People will say "bristlenoses won't harm plants" - same thing can be said about them not rasping off the sides of discus. It happens depending on the individual fish. Some clown loaches nibble on plants too, but they leave a "U" shaped hole.

I've never used an actinic lamp over my tank; I try to stick with the 6500k lamps. My red plants are plenty red with these lights.

Hope that helps.

did you quarantine at all?

This was a very good question asked and I did not see it answered. maybe you did and i missed it? If you are gonna add new fish without quarantine then you are gonna expect losses.

either way nice tank!

Love the tank and the discus!

I do feel like I have to warn you that your tank might be getting a bit overstocked, which is fine if you can commit to doing large daily or every other day water changes. I have 9 Hans discus in a 115g and though they seemed to fit quite nicely when I first put them into the tank, those darned fish have grown like wild fire and now take up ALL the available space! LOL

It's not uncommon to get 7" - 8" adults out of Hans stock. My Red Scrib, Marlboro Red and Red Turq are beyond 8" and my Flachen and FlachenSS are both right at 8". It doesn't leave much swimming room for the rest of the fish.

Yes, the actinic is doing nothing from your plants. You are wasting energy running it with the other lights. I would look into adding a 6500k bulb.

My snake skin looks a little funny 2 but water perimeters r perfect. Just in case going to do a big water change & clean the filter - trim all the plants - sometime 2day as well. I have eco-complete (http://www.caribsea.com/itempage_freshwatersubstrate_ecoplanted.htm) under my gravel. Even if it is starting to show "the black gravel" (not what I wanted but it is what it is) - I also use Seachem Plant additives (http://www.seachem.com/Products/product_pages/Flourish.html) about once a week after a water change usually.

As 4 the plant issues. My male bristle nose was eating the center of my plants. So he had 2 go & I cut out all the damaged leaves.

So it was a sudden death incident without any indication of illness before that? If so, then he may simply have been spooked and smashed himself hard enough against the glass or driftwood to kill himself.

I had one who nearly died after one of those freakouts. He still isn't "normal" and is suffering from what I assume is nerve damage and possibly brain damage. I was glad when he didn't die, but now that he's failing to fully recover I almost wish he had died because I'm reaching the point where I'm going to have to cull him soon if there's no further improvement...and I LOVE this fish!

Bottom I used Eco-Complete Plant Substrate. The Eco-Complete is black in color - I was trying to hide that (help against "peppering") but over the years moving stuff around, new plants, fish - it has starting coming up in certain areas. I don't like it. Than on top of that I used basically just river rock / pebbles (size was #2) came in a 25 lbs bag. I don't remember the brand whitish bag w/ blue & black designs and/or writing. Which I got both @ my LFS, www.delawarefishstore.com

In the process I found this guy - haven't seen him in over a year (if not more). I just figured the Discus ate him. But he's probably triple the size & beautiful coloring.

So, laid off decided to do a "heavy duty" cleaning & some gardening/landscaping (trimmed up the plants). Plus my weekly water change a little early. Very happy w/ the look. In the process I found this guy - haven't seen him in over a year (if not more). I just figured the Discus ate him. But he's probably triple the size & beautiful coloring.

OK. Everything is good - no issues (I know of). Did a water change today. Everybody in tank seems happy (always a plus).

Some news - I ordered 5 Discus Beauties from Kenny's Discus March order.

Strains I'm going with:
Virgin Red (x2)
Red Turquoise (X1)
Penang Eruption (x1)
Super Red Eruption (x1)

Can't wait. Setting up QT tank. Will send pics when they are in the QT.

ok - so over the weekend - I tried to get all the algae out. I tossed any drift wood and/or plants that had anything on it. I siphoned the top layer of my gravel trying to get any spots that had it. The tank looks kinda empty but at the same point I like it. I'll have to wait & see if this worked or not. Hopefully, non of that algae comes back. Cross your fingers. Here are some new pics of the change:

We got eggs. 2 of my Kenny Discus have paired up it seems. Red Turquoise & Penang Eruption. These pics are horrible & about a week old. The eggs only made it a few days before someone ate'em. Just thought it was pretty cool.

Beautiful discus! Love all the wood too!

Thank you very much. I need to post so new pics. Pulled some plants added new ones, but knock on wood everyone is doing fine.

I even had wigglers from the pair that paired up. Didn't make it, but I'm not really trying.

Everything is going well. No issues (knock on wood). I keep having wigglers from the 2. I will be doing a pretty big water change this weekend. Hopefully get some new pics up. Also, planted some Baby Tears - hoping they will "carpet" the front of the tank.

No recent pics. Everybodies seems pretty happy. Fighting green water. Turn lights off & have been doing water changes every other day. Its weird but once a year have this issue. Sun must be just in the right spot. Sucks

Had some issues. Lost 4 fish. My PH kept spiking to 7.8/8.0 for about 2 weeks. Fish were darking up & laying on the bottom. Moved to the hospital tank. Fixed all my water perimeters in display tank. Everybodys back. So got everything fixed & ready to go. Ordered some new fish from Kenny. So, will post up some new pics shortly.

Well it has been a while. I recently bought a new house (new to me). Unfortunately, the move did not go well at all. I lost most of my plants, all my discus (except 1), both bushing nose plecos, some tetras, and a few snails. Plus, the movers cracked my tank. Just really a bad experience. I was really bummed. So, for a while I had only 1 discus in a 37 gallon tank w/ some tetras, snails, and some shrimp. I am still fighting with the movers about my 120 gallon tank. The good news - I came across a 180 gallon tank at a great price (used). Stand, tank lights the works. I can't set it up right away but hopefully in the next 90 days - I'll be back in business. Once things started going I'll post a link and new tread on the set up. So maybe a little light at the end of the tunnel.
