Where can I purchase these?
There are a few on ebay and a few randomly online, but most of them are bleached and or sandblasted. We want natural correct?

Anyways, I am looking for that long, branchy, spindly look. I am needing it at least 18 inches tall. Any suggestions?

The rock wall is in place, some of the plants are planted, and I need some height inside the tank.
It is a 24" tall tank and designing it is proving difficult!

you can order from manzanita.com you can order and lenth and diameter. natural or blasted. I had a couple of the natural and scraped all the skin off. the sand blasted looks much better.
I would'nt order off of flea bay. thier shipping prices are crazy.

So what is better for the tank? Sandblasted or Regular? Also, do they leak tannins or change the water color at all?

i believe most use the sandblasted. some people over at TPT said that the unblasted ones were not yet dry

the natural is also dry. it's collected from dead trees and fallen limbs. the blasted just looks better under water. manzanita also has pics of thier stumps with demensoins and prices. here is my tank with both. all ordered from manzanita.com.

Yes, they will leach for a few weeks. Mine also took a couple of weeks to sink.

Here are some photos of mine:

Try to boil the pieces. And/or run them through the dishwasher (no soap, just water/steam). That helps get the tanins out. Activated carbon also helps remove the discoloration in the water. I've also heard good things about using Purigen for this but I have never tried it because it's kind of pricey.

I like the Manz that the sponsors have but the look I'm after in my tank requires branches that are a bit straighter. Anyone have any suggestions on tank-safe wood for that?

I'm thinking almost like a birch type wood, thicker than Manz but not super thick. But also without the bark.

If you're not in a hurry you could always send PC1 a message and see what he can find. He's always getting new pieces. Also, I notices manzanita.com had some canes and walking staffs and they make bird perches with straight pieces. Maybe that's what you're looking for? I can't imagine there would be any problem with them finding you a specific piece.

Michael at buymanzanita.com sells wood which isn't sandblasted if that's your thing. And Manzanita does much better in an aquarium than most any other woods in terms of not decaying or leaking excessive tannins. Just use some carbon for a few weeks and that will take out any tannins.

Sandblasted is much cleaner. Most of what you find for sale has been sandblasted anyway. It will turn deep, dark brown when fully saturated with water, and won't look sandblasted for long. Yes, it will mildly leech tannins for 2 or 3 weeks. You could soak it a few weeks if you wanted to remove the tannins first, but I think boiling it would be a unnecessary waste of time. Sandblasted wood manzanita is perfectly safe to use as is, and the slight tannin leeching goes away fairly quickly. The slight tannin leeching looks perfectly natural with discus, and I enjoyed the look while it lasted.

The guys at thedriftwoodstore.com have some great pieces as well but I think most of it isn't manzanita
