Let's all start 2011 off on the right foot. I realize I'm way overdue on scheduling the next meeting. I apologize for that. Unforseen work related travel mixed with home renovations have caused delays in getting our second meeting scheduled PLUS all of this has kept me away from the forum.

Things have relaxed a bit and I'm trying to squeeze in more forum time now. I want to get the ball rolling on a New Year's meeting. No, not on January 1st. LOL! I'd like to hear back from everyone who is interested in attending the next meeting in San Diego, CA. What dates work for you all?

This is going to be a great meeting! Good food, good friends and DISCUS! :) I'm looking forward to any and all feedback and even more so looking forward to seeing you all again soon!

Just getting back in to the swing of things here after a very busy holiday. LOL!

No firm date has been established yet for the January meeting. I've gotten very little input. I'm going to bump the old thread from the first meeting so that those that were part of that thread are aware of the new meeting. I'll be leaving for Japan on January 21, so it has to be before that or pushed to February.

For those of you who are just joining the group, the meeting will be held at my home in San Diego. We'll have a BBQ, raffle, lots of discus, and lots of fellowship. Check out the past group thread for pictures and feedback of the last meeting. It was a great time!

Good point about the title. I hadn't considered that to de an issue. I've adjusted the title of the thread to be a bit more topical. I'm in Japan all week and am looking forward to a gathering when I return. Keep that inpout coming as far as dates are concerned. I'd love to see the meetings grow.

Im at NAF Atsugi. It's near the city of Yamato in Kanagawa Prefecture. We have a great view of Mt. Fuji! :D

I flew into Atsugi once because I had to go to see a specialist at the hospital in Yokosuka. Too bad it's not later in the year, you could have gone on one of those Fuji climbing tours. I still have my climbing stick from when I was 18.

For those of you that are interested in purchasing discus, there will be a large selection to chose from. If any of you are interested in providing livestock for auction, sale or just show, please let me know at least a week prior so that I can prepare. Fresh, clean, heated tanks will be provided on a space available basis.

I am looking for a couple of volunteers to speak at the meeting. Anyone, anyone? :D

A question for you folks that are attending... Does anyone have any experience with microscopes?
I've just been playing around with mine, taking samples of this and that and even though I'm unsure of everything I'm finding and looking at- it's a very interesting thing to explore. I think we should all talk about using microscopes and i can bring mine to the meeting! It has a 3" x 3" digital screen for easy viewing of specimens and I'll get together some samples of things and try to do my homework to figure out what I'm seeing lol!
Microscopes in the fish room can be life savers! Its worth discussing I think even if I am no expert by any means :)
So does anyone have any experience using one?

You guys should see what a live black worm looks like magnified 10 times!.... Grooooossssss! LOL

To ensure there is enough seating, I recommend that you bring your own (deck, beach, patio) chair. I have a few patio chairs but, depending on the numbers that show up, I may not have enough. If we have to move indoors due to weather, seating will not be a problem unless 30 people show up. Then we're in trouble. :D


Some other items to consider for the meeting:

1. If you plan to purchase fish or frozen items, it would be a good idea to bring an appropriate container for the trip home. Disposable styrofoam coolers work well. Bags and oxygen will be provided.
2. If you don't plan to purchase fish or frozen items yet you enter the raffle and WIN fish or frozen items, you may still need a container. :D
3. If you have items that you would like to donate to the group for raffle, please bring them with you. Raffle item donations help fund the next meeting and are much appreciated! All I ask is if the item is used that it is in good working condition.
4. If you prefer specific items to eat or drink, please be sure to bring them. A menu will be sent to you via PM later tomorrow so that you can plan accordingly.
5. We officially have NO speakers. :huh: Since the structure of the meeting is relatively open, we'll likely have a round table to discuss our hobby and everyone can share their experiences. We have some very experienced members in our little group so I'm sure we'll have no problem learning from each other.

Hi Chad, Somehow I missed knowing about the meeting . I thought I was an a subscribed thread? Sorry I have not been active for about six months. I had a very unfortunate accident. I'm back in the game now and will definitely make the next meeting. I'm Glad to see Anthony Mazeroll is involved. I have wondered about his recent trip to the Amazon. Anthony had mentioned to me he may be gone intermitently starting June through to August on trips to Cambodia and Peru (I'm so jealous btw! Lol) let's get some feedback people and make this happen! If I don't hear from someone, I WILL PM you LOL. And what location will the next meeting be at? Anthony, were you still considering hosting one?

I'm actually thinking of ordering some cones from Barb for it. Maybe I can pick up some type of flakes or pellets in Fresno. It would be nice to get a bigger draw, although the small ones can be fun too.
