hey i have a couple questions
first, i will not be able to feed my discus 4-6 times a day the most i can do is three is that good enough?
second, why is a bare bottom tank the best (except for cleaning) id think its kinda bad because there would be no plants in it?

How big are fish? Makes a diff. when comes to substrate or not. Nothing saying you can't put potted plants in a BB or even silk ones

You have to do what works for you......Some use a feeder during the day.

To answer your second quote. Your answer (except for cleaning) is the main reason for BB tanks.
Food particles and fish waste get caught in substrate and fouls the water.
Peter has your other answer with the use of a fish feeder while your not at home.

here is a pick of clay pots in use with anubias. Terracotta should be okay also, you can always test it by placing in aged water and leave a few days and re-check the PH to see if you get changes from it. clay naturally helps to soften the water and I have seen breeding cones made from terracotta.

Sad...no, they'll be sad if the water isn't clean. ;)

Imo domestic discus are breed commercially in Asia....from fry to suitable size for export and they have never been in a planted tank all their life......planted tanks can be done with extra care......just my 2 cents.
