I purchased a group of angelfish about 2 months back from AquaBid and noticed I had two pairs form within a few weeks. So I figured what the hell, and pulled one pair (single dose PB black smokeys) into their own tank.

This was the second spawn I've witnessed between these two. They laid Thursday night and I noticed wiggly little tails last night. :D

I left the eggs with the parents just to see what would happen, and actually they're both taking fantastic care of the babies. I'm not expecting these to live. I'm not trying very hard though, either. But it's good to know if I ever wanted to give it a go in the future I have the chance.

Looks like I may need to invest in more tanks...

Hi Stacey. Congrats with the spawn!...Trust me, speaking from experience, you WILL need more tanks! Many more!...Bill

And they have EYES! Holy crap, I seriously never thought they'd make it this long. Especially because there is gravel in the bottom of the tank. :blushing:

Looks like it may be time to get some brine shrimp eggs along with those tanks...

I'll work on getting decent pics, Jen and Vera. I'm really not good at it. The dogs are much easier to capture.

YAY for baby angels! CONGRATS!

Your pups may make it though. I really doubt mine will. They're not in an ideal set up at all. But I can't change anything now. It's just good to see that these two will be great parents when I can get them the ideal space.

awesome Stacey, my angels spawned last night a huge amount of eggs, all gone by the time I got home from work tonight. That's okay I now know which are all my pairs and between my angels and Discus, I can play around in the future. I just need more time at home, so maybe next year.

Good luck with yours. Happy Holidays

Nice shots Stacey !
for how long u gonna leave pair with fry ?

Not really sure, Vera. Probably once I see a few free swimming, I'll move the parents back to the community tank. I didn't want to bother the eggs and have them fall to the bottom, possibly getting lost in the gravel.

They went freeswimming. I left the parents in, just to see what would happen. The parents continued to take fantastic care, but I was seeing fewer and fewer. So I moved the parents back to the community tank. After another couple of days I saw no babies. I assumed they all died and I began to break down the tank. Well I found three live ones in the process, and believe there were probably more that I missed. :( Those three are now in a tiny 1 gallon with an air stone until they grow large enough for me to see them and move them into the 36 gallon bowfront (super amazing craigslist find! Came with everything!). I'll definitely try these parents again (they're actually acting like they're ready for another round already) But I'll be sure to have a BB tank for them next time.

I'll try to get pics of the babies if they make it.

Yep. BBS all the way. I really believe they were hidden from sight by the gravel, and I just poured them down the drain.

Jennie

It is, Jennie! Never again! Lesson learned (not that I didn't believe y'all before. It's all I had at the time already cycled, and I truthfully never thought the eggs would make it that far.) I have a super awesome decorative idea in my head to make the new bowfront planted yet keep it bare bottom. I ordered all the "supplies", and they're on their way. I can't wait to get them. I WANT MORE BABIES!

Quick question for anyone...the tank came with one of the OLD Stealth Pro heaters. Are these okay to use in the tank? After my first and only experience with them, I'm hesitant to use it. I've got an inline on order from Kensfish, but if I can get the water up to temp before it comes the faster I can get the pair in the tank once I've got the plants in. :D

And FINALLY! The parents!
Ok, its not a good pic. Female is the standard fin, male is the veil.

Eggs are always a thrill to watch them hatch and grow Ive done it countless times still gets me to this day think its why Im still in the hobbie I usually pull my eggs cause my angels always eat there eggs if left alone there not hard to hatch and its a lot of fun to see what colors and patterns you get on the baby's I wish mine would parent raise but such is life someday mabye Ill get a pair that do there job lol
