I took the plunge today and ordered some of John's Nhamunda reds in his latest shipment. They will be going in a 75 QT I bought home today. I have two ACs cycling on my 46 fry tank and will be moving the 110 over to the 75.

I have mentioned in the past that my water is not wild friendly but have noticed that after adding wood to the 100 gallon it brings the PH down without adding RO water. So while the reds are in the QT they will require some RO water for WC. They will come week after x-mas.

I am also getting some of Dale's RSG fry and they will coming sometime in January. So I will be going from discus nobody to discus mama in a big way very shortly.

i think this move qualifies you to no longer need to post in the noob section! Move on up to general discus discussion, discus mama. In all seriousness that sounds like its going to be a stunning tank, cant wait to see it all filled up.

I'm not sure about that as I have not yet had any discus. So some very serious on the job training. I'm ready however with my WC process figured out and my BH mix in the freezer.

BTW, thanks for the promotion. On the 100 gallon it is just waiting for discus. It has cardinals, rummy nose, some of Al's red head tapajos, a couple of L183 and a couple of cories.

are those overflow boxes on each end of tank?? Love the wood on the ground

Second Hand Pat

Yes, these are overflow boxes which are built into the tank. Hubby and I have tried to determine a way to anchor pieces of the background to the front of them but have totally failed.

I really like that wood piece too but it needs a good week soak.

Jennie

maybe you can cammo those boxes with the wood

Yup, had similar ideas. Could add a little bit of sand and disguise with wood and some vals.

That's going to be great with discus! You're jumping in with both feet! Brave woman, but it's past time LOL. Fish or cut bait I believe is the expression...

Yup, I definitely decided to jump in and it is past time. I have hung about this place long enough so that I feel ready.

As I was sanitizing the QT and cleaning it's stand (used craiglist buy), I placed the stand on it's side (metal stand) and there were cobwebs under the lower metal rung. I took my finger to wipe the web out and touched a large black spider. It blended perfectly in the corner. I never saw it, only feel it. Yikes. Flipped it onto the porch floor and rolled it over with my shoe and sure enough, it was a black widow spider. It's body was dime sized which good sized for a black widow. Lucky I was not bite.

OMG, I hate spiders! especially ones with FUR

Vera, they are not too common unless you know where to look. They like dark, dry places. Usually find them in the barn, shed, not the house.

Jennie, not to fond of them myself. Little ones, ok...big ones are toast.

so sorry Pat , that would keep me in fear knowing of them around me

Vera, you get use to it. Florida is full of bugs, snakes, frogs, spiders...whatever.

OOh scary Pat, I guess I need to check my stands, I get spider webs too. House spiders don't bother me too much but those big wood spiders with tapering legs I trap & throw outside...carefully, lol. I only kill ones that get in the shower with me, naked & no glasses make me less tolerant. Up here I think brown recluse are the scary ones but maybe we get black widows too. Another reason not to clean the garage...

LOL, spiders being in the shower with me is good for them. I'm deadly with a towel.

Redid the hardscape with the new piece of DW. I like it better. Also cut the stumps out and left the root ball. Sorry the picture is blurry.

Thanks fishorama and Ed, I think I am finally happy with the hard-scape. Has the right balance of simplicity and whatever. I still need to play with my pump returns to direct water flow a bit differently and figure out how to take pictures with this new camera. It can not seem to focus with the low light.
