View Full Version : 38 days, no water/food

Eddie

I arrived back in Japan last night and today was the first water change/ feeding for all my fish since the 21st of November. That equates to 38 days without any water changes or food. All the fish are doing fantastic! Busted out 100% change on all the tanks and they all had a good feeding of tetrabits. Tonight I will get some pictures of the fishes!

Take care peeps!

Glad they are good Eddie! My discus that fasted for 4 months, reason still a mystery, is just fine now and eats well with all the others. They can go a long time without eating!

Heck yeah John, I'm looking to do some modifications myself since your lecture with D'Wyatt.

No worries Dave, the heckel cross is in tip top shape, just can't find a female that will stand up to him. He's a beast in the bedroom! LOL

I often see where people ask how long can they leave discus at home when on vacation. Now I know the answer is "if you asre gone only 38 days then you are fine".

I have never left mine any longer then 4 days with no food or WC and I was shocked at how clean my tank looked when I came home. No poop on the bottom and the water was crystal clear. Nice job Eddie!!!!

What kind of fish is that in the first and last pics I really like those?

Did you happen to check the water parameters when you got back? I'd just like to know what they were out of curiosity.

It's amazing they went that long without food/WCs. Definitely shows what great shape they're in.

None, the water dropped about an inch from the rim on each 55 gallon tank. I had them filled to the top before I left.

Post #4, mind you, its best to know your water before adding any additional minerals. My tap water is similar to RO water.

This may be silly but just a point of reference, we are talking about ADULTS right.......Probably not a good idea to leave JUVIES alone for this long period of time.

I don't think they are wilds, the parents are though (right Eddie?) :D

That's why Japan has the 'best' water for breeding ha. Yes, it is also important to know your discus too, because not all discus can tolerate this, only tough (meaning healthy) discus can withstand this!

Yup Kev, the male parent of the Solomon Cross is a wild.

Hey Eddie,

All the discus look great!! Other than adding minerals...any other "prep" work prior to leaving...such as feeding them more or doing larger water changes before leaving?? Also, how heavily stocked are your tanks?? I am planning a 16 day trip to China in June and wanted to get some advice.

Thanks, Lester
