My tank has been running for sometime now, but i can never seem to get that sparkling polished water, always some particals in it, I am presently using Fluval 205 with poly fiber for my 36 gallon corner tank. I am serioulsy questioning my filter gph, I read the rule of tumb is 8 to 10 times the Gallon, therefore 36 x 8 = 288 gph or 36 x 10 - 360 gph. Is this true?

Fluval 205 is rated at 185 gph, the Fluval 305 is at 260 gph. what do u think? should I upgrade to the 305??

A filter should be able to cycle the water 3 times in an hour for it to be acceptable so your 205 should be fine. If it is just the odd particle here and there, that is normal for a stocked tank. Make sure the intake for the filter is in a good position in the tank not blocked by plants etc and if you have a fine filter pad at the top of the filter, it should trap all the finer particles.

Thanks Laconic, My polyfiber is on the bottom tray, but Fluvals pull so it is really the first tray. My intake is clear and no blockage, I have good circulation in the tank.
