Well my two favorite fish are Discus and GBR's. In my 135 I have 5 Uatuma Blues and 7 or 8 GBR's along with some tetras and corys. My wife was in the fish room with me and I pointed out to her a pair of GBR's in the 135 that had a batch of fry (about 1 day free swimming). Then she noticed that what I hope is a pr of Uatuma Blues was hanging out pretty close. I figured the fry were too small to intice the discus. Heck I could barely see them. Next thing you know Mom and Dad are taking on the pair of discus.

Sorry about the dirty glass. I wasn't expecting to be taking pictures.

Look real close and you will see the fry

I'm hoping these guys are pairing off

They don't usually mess with the adults, but the fry were just too enticing.

That's awesome! Congrats! I am getting some wild GBR's this weekend for my discus. Hope I can keep them alive longer this time.

Thanks for the complements. Most of my wild blues came from Snookin21 but I got this female from a friend. In the last week they seem to be together away from the others more and they have really colored up more than normal. Time will tell. I keep saying that wilds just have a classic beauty that you don't usually see in domestics. GBR's really have a lot of personality. That coupled with their coloring make them my second favorite fish. I quite often will throw a batch of GBR growouts in a tank with discus and they are excellent tankmates. This is the first time I have had a spawing pair with the discus. It was really fun to watch. Talk about spunk. My wife wanted me to pull the fry out but I have pairs in their own tanks for that.

With all plants in yr tank some of fry has really good chance to survive , do Colombian Tetras take a snap at fry , i was surprised that Discus went for that usually Tetras dont miss a chance
BTW is it Blyxa Japonica the grassy plant at the front

beautiful tank Larry,
where did you find your GBR's? i have been in the market for some and the last two x i bought them i was not happy. Yours are perfect. Same as your tank though.

Thanks Kenny

I was surprised to Vera. GBR fry are so tiny that is seems hardly worth the trouble. Guess it is just instinct. I have cardinals, congo tetras and corys in the tank also. Someone will eat the fry. Yes that is Blyxa. I love it, just hard to get it to root initially.

Thanks Ken. These GBR's are some that I have grown out. The original breeders that I got came from Oddball fish. GBR's are their mainstay. It can be really difficult to find decent GBR's. I won't buy them from a lfs!!

Man I have to get some wilds soon. I also would like to have some rams again. I have had some in the past and one of my all time favorite fish. I had one live right to 5 years of age. That is a long time for a ram IME. He was a vetran discus egg eater and had only one eye for about his last year. Still colorful and outgoing fish with lots of personality.

They had absolutely no chance. All eaten. I was breeding GBR at the time of the thread so losing the ones in the community wild tank wasn't a big loss. I had plenty more in the breeder tanks.
