Hey Jim,
How do you have leopards? when I have the 2 discus you are showing in the picture? By the way they haven't spawned yet.

Remember I showed you the tank of fry from them before you bought the pair? that's them!
give them a couple of good wc's with 2 deg lower temp, they should go.They were always at it. sometimes they would take a couple month break, but then always back at it.
I don't know if this is a factor but one time I put them in a tank with a darker blue back ground and they didn't spawn for about 3 -4 months, I put them in a tank with a light tan background and they spawned in a week, could have been big change or color, who knows

I am located in Toronto, Canada. I can't reply to your message because I have only 2 posts.
I cannot ship to Canada. I have someone else who would love to have others I have but none of the carriers I contacted will ship them.
sorry.
I am not very fond of shipping small discus in cold weather. I have gotten very well packed adults with bag temps as low as 71,though it did not directly bother them, small ones may not recoup as fast, imo. so for now I will stick with local pick up only. Thank you

I'll take 6 of the fry, If you still have them. I'm from LI/NYC, but I know Westchester area ( many of my business clients are in Westchester). The only problem is I'm just getting back into this hobby (10 years absent) and the 90 gals tank is just sitting up. I could pay you first, and pick-up the fry in 1-2 weeks. Yes I know how to take care of fish, raised 4th gen of Angle fish ( When I was MUCH younger). Thank you.

Hi I will set a bunch aside for 1 -2 weeks. I have 9 bar leopards and 14 bar leopard snake skins I will set a side a few of each.
Let me know asap if you change your mind.
I would try to use a smaller tank than 90 for just 6 2" discus. It could be fine but they have tendencies to feel more secure in a tighter surroundings.
I would keep 6 in a 29 gallon tank and as they grow move them up. But that is completely up to you.

Hi Jim, I could pay you cash first on Monday or Tuesday afternoon and pick-up in 1-2 weeks.
Unfortunely, I gave all my small tanks away 10 years ago. All I have now is a acrylic 90g tank sitting in my LI basement collecting dust. First, I need to have my emplyee move it to my NYC place. Second, cycled the water though the sump for a week.
Please keep 3 of each kind for me.
Thanks again. Hope to see you soon.
Ed
Hi Ed
I do not mean to offend anyone, but I would rather not sell the fish if they are going into an un-cycled tank.
It takes me almost 6 weeks sometimes to cycle a tank.
I sell these as a hobbyist not for a living,so the fish mean more to me than the $.
If you can get the tank 100% cycled with another aged filter I will be more than happy to help you.
Jim

No problem Jim, I understood how you feel. I was trying to rush the cycle, by using peat moss. Even using peat moss, nitrate level will still be off in 1 week.
This tank used to be salt water set-up, it took me ~2.5 months just to cycle the tank with live rock and sand.
Hence, no offend taked, Thanks again.
Ed
Hi Ed
I have plenty for now, I also have blue diamonds, (same size). let me know when you get it cycled I will be more than happy to help you!

I well let you know ASAP when the tank is cycled.
As for Anglefish, activated carbon is none issue to rush the nitrate to a safe level (after seasoned the water with peat moss). But with the Discus, I'm going to let "mother natural" do the job. Organic peat moss has nitrate fixing bacterial in it, just take more time (but more stable, less spike or flex). I'm also using Eheim Pro marine canister filter with EFHI to speed thing up (Unfortunely, the EFHI is new= no bact).
I'll let you know in 2+ weeks later, hopefully you well still have some left. Thanks
I'll love to have 3 of those blue diamond.

Just a tip on keeping smaller discus in a larger aquarium... Just get a divider and keep the juvies to one side of the tank. As they get bigger you can expand their swimming space by sliding the divider over... Keeps them happy :)
Z You can use Poret foam or even run over to home depot and buy a piece of colored acrylic. HTH

wendy9722
02-22-2011, 04:18 PM
No, right now they have 7 other discus with them. I'm glad they are a friendly pair. I'm about to do some rearranging of fish tanks. I need to move my angels for more room. Since my tropical tank amount is dwindling down to a couple. I'm going to switch them. Then I have another 12 babies coming on Tuesday which they are pea size angels. So I guess with the spare tank that is set up and running thats where they are going. Unless I put a divider in the 55 gal with the other angels. What do you think?
Wendy
Hi Wendy
I would put them in their own 29 gallon nothing else. The fry will eventually get around the divider. I never mix breeding pairs with any other fish. If they have any flukes or whatever AT ALL you will be wasting time breeding them. I will never try to breed discus that are not 100% clean.
breeder pairs 100% clean,,please elaborate...how did you accomplished this???
wendy9722
02-22-2011, 05:21 PM
I'm confidant that all the discus I have are 100% clean. The only one that I do that is a concern is the baby. That is why it is going to treatments to make sure it is clean. Everyone else was done. If they have something wrong. I will catch it or my kids do. I watch my tanks more than I watch tv. As I am on the computer I can see my tanks clearly. I love looking at them as I am on the computer. When I was setting it up that was a must. :)
Wendy

Mostly meaning fluke free.
Ime if the parents have flukes you might as well forget raising fry from them until you are 100% sure they are gone. I have stated in earlier post what I treated pairs for flukes with and have since scoped many fry and so far, thank God, found not a single fluke. I have also not lost one single fry from the last 4 batches I have. so from my own experience fry that have had flukes are not worth the trouble.

Cevoe
07-24-2011, 11:22 PM
They are on an auto feeder for four feedings a day of a pellet mix of tetra color bits, discus bio-gold and new life spectrum.
After work they get a beef/seafood mix (usually every other night) and freeze dried blackworms (every night).
Flake and pellets here and there too when I am around the tanks.
Water changing daily at 75%.
maxpain
07-25-2011, 11:20 AM
nice. i think i'm going to try feeding them some more pellets. i feed them a variety of foods but only when i'm home. i would love to hit them with freeze dried black worms all day but there's 26 mouths to feed in that tank. a bag of that stuff won't last long. which do you prefer, the bio-gold or life spectrum?

Hi Do you have any more of these for sale. will you be able to ship it to 30188. Thanks
Cevoe
07-25-2011, 12:30 PM
I actually like using the Tetra Bits out of all three.
My fish feed on them best, they are the right size and after comparing their nutrional value with other foods I think they are as good as anything.
I try to keep the freeze dried blackworms to once a day and late in the day since so they will stay on other foods.
They are also over 60% protein, if I am not mistaken, so I don't want them to have too much in lieu of carbs, vitamins, etc.
I would say that the four extra feedings a day the auto feeder allows makes enough of a difference to invest in one.
Hi Do you have any more of these for sale. will you be able to ship it to 30188. Thanks
sorry all were sold
